It's not that often that an audiophile can send a piece of equipment back to the manufacturer for upgrade.
I sent my Berkeley Alpha Reference DAC (V3) in for upgrade to Version 3P about 2 months ago. I know the Berkeley is passed over by many because it doesn't do DSD, but that's not an issue for me and the sound is incredibly good, especially at its price point. I've had Berkely Ref DACs since V1, which was factory upgraded to V2. When V3 came out there was no upgrade path, so I sold the V2 and bought a V3. Happily, the V3 is upgradeable to V3P status. P stand for perfected by the way. Anyhow, got it back and it sounds amazing.
Next up is my Shunyata Everest. I sent it in for upgrade to Everest X status. I dispatched it to them November 3, and was just notified it's been upgraded, is currently basking in the KPIP treatment, and will ship back to me on Monday. It's supposed to be a big, easily noticeable improvement so we'll see.
In the meantime, while the system was down I decided to upgrade the feet on my Q subs, as the stock Magico feet are basically solid and my listening room is in the bonus room above the garage. I only has a day to listen before sending off the Everest, but first impression was a noticeable improvement in the low bass.
So a triple play if you will. I normally do changes one at a time and fully evaluate each one, but this time it just worked out better to do them almost simultaneously.
