Has anyone tried to use Mullard long plate on a C2300, if so, how do you like them?
I currently using Gold Lion for the line stage and Telefunken on the MC phono. I can get good deal on the Mullard but I have no experience with them, Thank you.

Mike, Mullard's in general (originals from the Blackburn plant, not re-issue) are warm, wide range and are one of the few that bring the mid's forward nicely. But it really depends on your overall system sound...if you tend to the dark side (bassy but not super detailed in the highs) , then you may want to lean toward RCA or GE black plates. But if you are balanced or already detailed, the Mullards are awesome.

Like I said though, early 60's, Blackburn plant. Example

Thank you so much fort the tip. First let me make sure that what my friend are selling are the original Mullard from Blackburn plant. If they are, I will consider buying it from him. By the way, he is asking $350 for four pieces, is that a good price? Thanks.

I would think they are NOS (new old stock) because the new ones (reissue) can be had CHEAP.
New Reissue Mullard 12AX7 ECC83 Pre Amp Vacuum Tubes $14 30 Each | eBay

These are some of my favorites. They were made for Fisher (by Mullard) in the Blackburn plants. What you want to check is their test ratings and the seller ratings.

to be REALLY sure, here is a VERY reputable site (I buy from him) and though the prices are premium, you GET what you pay for 100% guaranteed.

SCROLL down to find the Mullards. Even the $85 per NOS are good (may be branded Fisher, etc.)

Take your pick, the prices vary VERY much...

These are good mid priced

12AX7 Mullard rare yellow shield logo, halo getter, standard plates MATCHED PAIRS

New Old Stock in original box and whiteboxes. Rarely seen in the USA, the yellow shield logo tubes are from the early 1960s, only made for 2 years, and rival the longplates in quality. We have a few hand selected pairs with excellent labels. SINGLE TUBES ARE $100.00 EACH.

$200.

Except...they could be old stock, grey plates which would only cost $100 to $150 a pair...One really has to research :-)
