Did you ask MSB why there are two clocks in Sentinel? I can only guess one is used for DSD signals and the other for PCM....Take the clock. They had theories on how to drastically improve on the Femto 33...
?? All MSB DAC’s have two clocks. One for 44.1 and all the multiples and one for 48 and all the multiplesDid you ask MSB why there are two clocks in Sentinel? I can only guess one is used for DSD signals and the other for PCM.
Gotcha....As you know Esoteric use a 10MHz clock frequency I guess that must divide up nicely for 44.1 and 48. Or something else fundamentally different might be going on there. I tried an Esoteric clock with the Wadax but couldn't get them to sync.?? All MSB DAC’s have two clocks. One for 44.1 and all the multiples and one for 48 and all the multiples
Completely different approaches.Gotcha....As you know Esoteric use a 10MHz clock frequency I guess that must divide up nicely for 44.1 and 48. Or something else fundamentally different might be going on there. I tried an Esoteric clock with the Wadax but couldn't get them to sync.
I heard it. This week.I’m sure the Sentinel is a great DAC. At that price, and in that company, it has to be.
That said, my experience so far is simple. To my ears, and for me, no DAC I’ve heard (full Reference Atlantic stack inclouded) has truly surpassed the analogue experience. Not in 2023. Not in 2024, and not in 2025.
Maybe that moment will come.
I’ll believe it when I hear it.
I've just trawled through the PS forums. Some owners are returning their PMG 512 wonder DAC's as they expected them to work properly, others are suffering buggy units in hope of promised fixes, some implemented fixes break other things, etc. History repeating itself all over again. As if the fan boys might expect anything different. It's mostly just one guy working on sofware at MSB, right? I'd love to put up a Sentinel against my D1XSE, I'm really impressed with the sound of this Esoteric.Hahaha. Nope. They’re busy with repairs.
No, there are 3 guys. They sit in the same office.I've just trawled through the PS forums. I can understand how the Sentinal could sound better than vinyl when playing uncompressed digital but a compressed digital recording won't sound better than uncompressed (or less compressed) vinyl version will it? Several popular recordings have more dynamic range on the vinyl versus digital version.Absolutely. No joke. I listened to everything from 1950’s recordings to modern stuff. 20+ hours. Lots of A/B. It’s not close to anything I’ve heard before.
I think some of the guys here may conclude, the Cascade with PF using fiber card is right there now. This is just another level above by many multiples.
I got some technical explanations (long ones) on WHY the fiber is so much better than any other input. It all has to do with noise. There is “virtually none” with the fiber.
Everything I tried - including obscure recordings I have on vinyl and digital, sounded better than I’ve ever heard.I can understand how the Sentinal could sound better than vinyl when playing uncompressed digital but a compressed digital recording won't sound better than uncompressed (or less compressed) vinyl version will it? It's not so much the format but the quality of the recording. I have CD's that sound better than some SACD.I can understand how the Sentinal could sound better than vinyl when playing uncompressed digital but a compressed digital recording won't sound better than uncompressed (or less compressed) vinyl version will it? Yes.Are they using Magico M2 in the demo room??
The M2’s sound great in their sound room. It’s not a massive room.As good as M2 is, I'm surprised they are not using a speaker higher up the Magico food chain with electronics of that impeccable pedigree.
