MQA now on Tidal

The first link here says 3500 albums, I think that's the 30000 tracks to be made available on Tidal.

Thank you Wklie, interesting. So they now have 500 albums on Tidal with 7X that to come probably over the next X? period of time. I wish Tidal had a magic MQA wand that they could just wipe over their entire collection....for me that would be game over. Thx again, I was looking for this type of information.

I'm trying to figure out why Tidal is not sending 24-bit music to Lumin players (after adding them to favorite using the desktop app), and have sent an e-mail to Tidal to ask about that. (Even though Lumin cannot decode it right now, I think it should still be possible to get the undecoded 24-bit stream.)

You MUST use the desktop app to PLAY the file in order to decode MQA. This fact seems to be lost on many people use Lumin et.al for playback.

A according to individuals on other sites I believe that is what you are getting. I am not 100% sure that with software decoding you are currently getting all of my MQA's benefits but that is yet be clarified. Either way I am sure it sounds good.

If you're getting 88.2 or 96k, you're doing it right. :dancered:

I am receiving it.

I added 20 albums to Favorites in the Tidal desktop application and were quickly available in the Lumin app on my Ipad. Then give the order on my Ipad, from the album I want to play and ............ it works.
Another thing, is whether MQA decoding is actually occurring.
There is an interesting thread with opposing points of view.

nonesup...thanks a lot. mine also works now. there was an upgrade that might have had something to do with it but i,too, show 24/48 when playing there Masters albums..COOL..thanks again..dave....Peter ...thank you too.

Peter..any word as to why Tidal is not sending 24-bit music to the Lumin player..

This problem is fixed, as you have already found out.

To get 24-bit MQA music streamed to Lumin (but without MQA decoding):
1. Use Tidal desktop app on a computer to add a Tidal Masters music to favorite
2. Play it using Lumin from Tidal favorite
3. Observe that the bitdepth is 24bit instead of 16bit - this indicates you're receiving MQA music from Tidal. Since Lumin is not decoding MQA (yet), you will see 44.1kHz or 48kHz only, not a higher bitrate.

In this setup you can verify whether MQA's claim of MQA music sounds better even without any MQA decoding is true or not.

Note: This procedure does not generally apply to other manufacturers without the "fix". They may still receive 16-bit non-MQA music even if playing favorite Tidal Masters music.

These are the kind of comparisons I personally am looking for. I total assume Tidal streaming is worth it, but comparing MQA to high res downloads... Every head to head I have seen give the high res download from current DACs the advantage...

Sorry. A inaccurate blanket statement.

Once we have added an album to Favorites in Tidal Desktop, we look for it in the Folder "My Favorite Albums" of the Lumin app, we see that it is there.
But if we now do a search, in the Lumin app of that album. (In this case Dark Sky Island) we have 4 albums (two are 44.1 / 16 and two are 48/24)

Now it's easy to create a playlist in the Lumin app, with, for example, two versions of the same song,

If someone wants to see (hear :D) what Tidal MQA can do with their own software feeding a non MQA Dac check out Duke Ellington....Afro Bossa......

Cheers......
