MQA Discussion

You want dissent among the MSB, DCS and Grandioso fans?

Can't go wrong with any of those.

Nah, dissent as in MQA vs non-MQA files with MQA vs non-MQA dac's......

Oh. My advice? Wait a year and then see what's going on. MSB and Berkeley doing MQA brings about great DAC's with the technology.

Sure thing. Always looking forward to the next big thing in digital for dac/computer audio which can only get better with each passing day. Likely that dCS and Esoteric may also come up with MQA dac's that surpass their own current non-MQA dac's. :)

I haven't heard a Meridian piece I liked, so I guess the answer is no.

This is exactly what puzzles me: First Meridian are not exactly on top of the most wanted list with how their DACs sound and then the whole industry should follow their lead.

....which leads one to suspect that the real reason the major music labels are signing up in droves is that they would rather not sell any more music at 96/24, 192/24 or higher for us to own. The buck will stop at 44/24, 48/24.
They would prefer streaming where no-one actually owns anything even as the revenue stream from monthly subs continue indefinitely. Just my humble 2 cents.

My Meridian sure beat the Berkley when I A/B's it in my set-up last fall.

At present, it seems only a small minority of DAC manufacturers are bringing MQA DACs to market. As Mike says, let's see how that looks a year from now.

It's worse than that. I keep checking into Tidal Masters...and can't find anything I would want to listen to (other than a 2L track here and there), even with a nice dose of aliasing distortion. None of that pop etc. music appeals to me.

Oh, at Mike's, I found far greater (stark) differences between say the Chord Dave and other DACs, than in any of the MQA vs non-MQA comparisons, which were subtle at best, imo. Then again I'm no latest and greatest fashion kool-aid drinker either. YMMV.

That's pretty hard to believe, with nearly 3000 albums in MQA, lots of classic jazz, classic rock, classical...

Of course you are correct, it is always subjective and a question of preference. Only matter of importance is that you enjoy it.

I'm questioning whether or not you are actually looking at all of the titles available
No, you're questioning my taste in music :)
Once more, some stuff here and there, the vast majority I don't listen to. Yes, looking at spreadsheet.
The Tidal GUI is a joke.
If/when Spotify hifi comes out, Tidal will be history for me.

well

Well of course the vast majority you don't listen to, I suspect that is true for most members here. That's sounds quite a bit different to me than "can't find anything I would want to listen to". i dropped my Tidal membership about 1 1/2 months into the free trial for that and other reasons.

You still just don't like my taste ;-)

As the saying goes, "there's no accounting for taste!"

I really have no idea what your tastes in music are :peace:
A 2L track here and there:D

Ok, I'll make it my duty to study the Roon spread sheet daily, maybe there's more...but then there's actually finding it using Tidal GUI, which is abysmal (not MQAs fault at all).
