I've used MinimServer 0.8 from the beginning for my D1 on a Synology DS 710+. Simon Nash is not supporting it anymore, but I've had no problems. I'd be interested in advice about any downside to staying with 0.8. Also, has anyone used just the MinimServer2 at only the Starter level? Did you lose any functionality from 0.8?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts! :)

I have a Synology DS716+ and upgraded to '2' at the starter level. There's a thread here - MinimServer Forum I had similar concerns and at this point in time with a ton of things going on (got over some major heart surgery among many other things), I decided to just do the basic (and had no issues) and as I catch up on things (which will at least be several more months or a bit longer), I'll re-visit the issue. I have a Lumin U1 in the main system, a few PCs where I run JRiver (an older version) and a couple of DLNA Blu-Ray players in other systems. No issues at all. I had a friend who waited for me to do it (he had an initial problem with the original minimserver and it was a simple fix and I went and did it for him) and he opted to upgrade to the paid version (so now maybe I'll wait for him to see his use of it). As far as I know he hasn't had a single issue (he'll probably be over later to listen to music) as he likely would have texted or emailed me. It's a great product. Note that there are threads like - MinimServer Forum or MinimServer Forum and perhaps others. I just got the prompt for DSM7 on my Synology and will likely wait a couple of weeks as the next week or so is a little busier than usual.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll be interested in what your friend says about the paid version. Before moving to the basic, just want to make sure I wouldn't lose any functionality on the Lumin app. Hope your recovery is going well!

I ran first the starter version, but then activated the 30 day trial for more options, as I like to see my albums not by the album name but have a suffix for audio q like HD,CD or LC for lossy, without that but with the nice library inside the Lumin app maybe also the default starter version of Minimserver is good enough.

In case you're in doubt between starter or licensed version, there's always the 30 day full options trial version.

When moving from starter to (30 day trial) full version Minimserver says this:
Your 30-day trial license enables you to use all features and configuration options supported by MinimServer and MinimStreamer with no restrictions or limitations. When your trial period ends, you can either purchase and activate a full license or revert to the features supported by Starter Edition.

When moving back to the full version (in case you've set any advanced properties, Minimserver says this:
Confirm Deactivate License: Because your new license type is Starter, the following property settings in your current active profile 'default' cannot be applied: (i.e. are lost)
[..] values for : showExtras ; indexTags ; tagValue ; tagOptions ; tagValue ; tagFormat

So for me obvious what to do :)

Good info. Thanks!

I'm using the starter version, streaming from my NAS to the X1. I honestly haven't noticed any difference at all since updating from 0.8, it was works just the same as previously.
