Fired up the new 601's tonight. The first 60 minutes were iffy, but then, wow. I'm kind of surprised at how big the meters are. The new Mc speaker terminal might be the best I've ever seen. Separation is better than expected. Just need to try the SLP-05 tube preamp next week to bring vocals forward. Overall, so far so very good.

I suspect these will pair nicely on the S5's as planned.

So Mike, McIntosh wasn't so impressive this year at T.H.E SHOW in Sin City?

May I share some of Leo's pictures ::

Bob - McIntosh was at CES, not THE Show (just to be clear). The new product launches by Mc didn't interest me one bit. The 2301's were sounding sweet! There was lots of eye candy, just wish they had some exciting new stuff for the traditional two channel guys. Heck, even a MX160 would have been ok!

Mc601's

Quick question Mike or anyone. I'm thinking to add some power amps.

I'm thinking three different amps.

1. MC 2301's - if this one comes in ...my MC275's will go

2. Bryston 28BSST2 - it will be just addition to my system.

3. ARC Ref 250 - again MC275's leaves

What do you like the best out of 3 ?

The pre amp will stays regardless for now.

# Yes My MC601's stays no matter what :)

Paul - I've heard your speakers many times and they are great. What kind of sound are you after? Something fast, punchy, dynamic and transparent? Something warm and romantic? How happy are you with your preamp? Is the preamp an area you could improve upon? 500T perhaps?

In the meantime, the 2301's make the most sense because your preamp and other associated gear is Mc. The 28's are very different from the Mc house sound and are one of the best SS amps out there. Real sweet sounding.

I don't like arc amps with Mc preamps. However, I love the other way around - Mc amps with ARC preamps.

But here's another thought...

- your speakers are nicely efficient at 91db
- you may have more fun with a tube amp that isn't KT88 or KT120 tubes. Something 845 or maybe 300b. The Manley 300b's are real sweet sounding. The Cary CAD 211 FE is a 845 amp powered by 300b's. Really sweet sounding with great bass. I get mine next week, so I can give you more details.
- I absolutely loved the LA Audio P-845 amp and at $9995 list, it's a killer amp.
- there is near endless great 845/300b tube amps. Triode Corp of Japan make real nice amps.
- SS wise, the Pass XA60.8's would be high - very high - on my list with your speakers.

Sorry, my confusion: CES (Viva Las Vegas - Elvis, Sin City) and T.H.E. SHOW (Newport, City of Angels).

Bob - THE Show was going on in Vegas - at the Flamingo Hotel. Just not officially part of CES. You needed a different badge, etc. I sent photos from THE show. Soundlabs, Lampizator, Magnepan and lots of small, start ups were at THE Show.

I see. ...And at the Venetian Hotel? ...Like where Vienna Acoustics have their room at ('The Music' speakers) ...

* CES 2014 = Consumer Electronic Show 2014 (Las Vegas, Nevada).
* T.H.E. Show 2014 = High End Audio Exhibition at the Flamenco and Venician Hotels (rooms)?
...Las Vegas, Nevada (in the middle of the desert - Sin City).
