It’s time for a new phono cartridge – the dealer I purchased my phono section from doesn’t sell cart’s however he tell’s me the gain on my phono stage + 48.8 db with a switch that can boost it to + 67.0db and MC loading is limited to 100 ohm only. Input sensitivity for MC is .45mV and the Table is a VPI Classic 2 – any suggestions for a suitable MC cart?

What phono stage?

Pathos "In the Groove" Mark 2.

I would look at the Ortofon Cadenza Blue, Lyra Delos.....being your limited to only 100 ohm loading it narrow your cartridge choices. Another option would be one of the MI Grado's and run the MM section.

here is the spec of your phono stage:

Main Specifications:
Type: passive RIAA in pure Class A powered by batteries.
Input state by low noise transistors
Balanced output
Gain 60dB + possibility of adding another 20dB.
Charger built in, automatic stand-by.
Frequency response: 10Hz-100 KHz
S/N ration: 80dB @1KHz/5cm/s
Input impedance: MM 47KOhm/47pF MC 100Ohm/1nF

Thx for your suggestions. So far two votes for the Delos. I have heard good things about the Ortofon blue&black but have not actually heard either one yet. My last cart. was a HO MC Benz Glider running through the MM section..would like to try something like the Ortofon or the Delos. Thx again.

Thanks for all of your suggestions - I was keen to try a Cadenza but managed to find a Lyra Delos that was within driving range so made the decision to go with the Delos - picking it up on Friday and next weekend I will have the fun of attempting to mount it. Wish me luck.

I just bought a Delos too for my AVID table. We can share notes! I think it should be a real home run for the $$.

My new Delos arrived today right in schedule...don't get the fancy box like you do with a Benz but a very nicely constructed cart. I haven't got it mounted yet but look forward to sharing notes. How are you liking yours ?

Mine should arrive next Wednesday. Mark (MDP) intercepted it (he wanted to try it) and he absolutely loved it - so much so, that a cartridge kidnapping was a real possibility this week! Professional negotiators had to become involved in order for the cartridge to be safely returned to its rightful owner. :) A little birdie told me he was so darn impressed, he may just have ordered his own Lyra! :D

I'm looking forward to your impressions. Will you mount it this weekend?

Awesome how do I kidnap a cartridge. Anyone buying a Titan soon want me to test it out for em. Lol

Sadly I likely will not get around to mounting it for a few weeks....hopefully one of us get's it mounted sooner - I look forward to comparing notes. Glad to hear your cart. kidnapper enjoys it !
