MBL 101 XTreme Reference Install

An observation: The lucky man with the MBL Extreme set up must be a very smart guy. I noticed that the entire house is full of Christmas decorations except one room: his music room. So maybe it went something like this: "honey you can do anything you want with the rest of the house but don't touch the music room". I would say that this is very smart move.:D

He should keep a permanent mistletoe hanging in that room.

Thanks Mike. Do you consider that to be the optimal front end for Extremes?

The N31 offers current and up to date digital. The REF digital is a little long in the tooth, but still sounds and looks great. But this client wanted Roon. Funny enough, he’s not a Roon fan after a month and just asked me to order him an Aurender W20SE and ACS10.

Mike, I'm curious about tube amplification and MBL's (in the event I hit the lottery). Have you ever heard MBL's bi-amped with tubes for mids and highs along with the big MBL amps for lf or do they only work best with the full compliment of matching amplification?

I haven’t, but MBL has a few customers running the big VAC 450iQ monos with great results. Bi-amping would be tricky as I would have to match gains.

Interesting, thanks! I assume something like Air Tight 3211's would not have enough horsepower to drive those adequately?

I read somewhere that the big MBLs are optimized for the big MBLs amps. When playing ball at that level, might as well wear the right gear.

Exactly.
And MBL amps are not more expensive than comparable high end offerings.

Good point. Bart, how’s your Vivid’s? Man, those are fantastic speakers. When I have room, they’re coming back to Suncoast Audio. Had a nice chat with the new distributor. They seem to be trying to get the ball rolling again here.

I don’t think that’s a match I would try. 3211’s would be more appropriate for Avantgarde’s.

Mike, we're very happy with the Vivids.
Also knowing the man behind the speakers personally is a plus.
Dic stayed already twice at our house.

This being said, I would never say no to an MBL 101 XTreme Reference system!
Number one on my liist of top speakers that I've heard.

Vivid Audio is also in my top 5 for sure.
The G1 Spirit is fantastic, our G2s are still great, at the age of 9 years now.
With the C1 and V1ws, they form a fantastic 5.0 system, and have useful output till 20 Hz.

A well set up Avantgarde Acoustics system is equally top of the bill, although a tad less natural sounding.
I've heard them 4 times now (the Trios).
Twice in a brilliant system (they are very sensitive to cabling), twice in a lesser system.

Then comes YG Acoustics for me.
They must sound close to Magico, but I've only heard a couple of Magico models so far, and some of them were really not carefully set up.
I'd love to hear the M2, M3 and M6, but Magico seems to disappear a bit from the scene here in the Netherlands and Belgium.

I think I'll have to come over to visit you!
You have good taste.
A lot of my favourite brands in your store for sure!

Thanks Bart. Yes, I’m very particular about my brands. Vivid is definitely in my top 5.

Glad you’re still enjoying them. What’s not to like? Yes, MBL’s better a lot of speakers out there. They have that effect.

Mike knowing that both are amazing what impresses you more, Avantgarde w tubes or the full blown MBL w matching amps?

They are equally great for me. I had my AG’s for many years and now enjoying a full MBL system. I just love what both of them do. When I go to Munich, I always enjoy the best three companies can offer.
