Yup, the MB100 is a computer...kinda sorta. The Logic Board [not to be confused with the DAC that McIntosh created] has a BIOS [CMOS] and that board has a battery that will over time need to be replaced.
What is this and why?
The Bios is program, a script if you will, that lives on a little chip on the mother board/logic board/main board/etc.
The BIOS is a vital chip that is very important to the PC's functioning. When the PC or MB100 boots or starts, the BIOS [program] is going to find virtually all the hardware in the computer [MB100] and of course it stores the time and the date as well.
The BIOS Battery is a small battery on the mother board that keeps the BIOS alive when the computer/MB100 is powered off.
The battery is usually a 3 volt lithum battery such as a CR 2032, but there are many types some are coin type like the one already mentioned, some are larger than this coin type battery, like a small disposable battery.
So, if you have an MB100, at some point, you will need to replace the BIOS [CMOS] battery! Logic board batteries last 3-4 years.
