Mark (MDP) Visit

How do you Kimber guys find the noise floor in the Select interconnects compared to shielded cables. I know they use the complex braiding to help with rfi rejection but have wondered how effective it is on the itty-bitty, little, baby signals (I know it is sufficient on speaker cables). The reduction in capacitance from no shield is a real good thing for sure but how quiet are they?

Very quiet, Paul. Significantly quieter than the Cardas Clear Light interconnects they replaced.

Paul, I find their cables to be very quiet also. I haven't used their interconnects on my vinyl rig though. I prefer a shielded cable there. I'm not sure that they would work very well in that application.
 
My system is as quiet with the KS1116 in the mix as it is with the Shunyata - extremely quiet is how I would describe it.
 
Thanks guys. That braid system is apparently as good in practice as it is on paper.

Paul-I believe the braid is good for shielding out AC hum, but not so good for shielding from RFI/EMI. I still have a pair of green Kimber ICs from yesteryear that used to pick up radio stations when connected between the Counterpoint SA-5.1 and ARC D-76 that I used to own once upon a time.
 
Thanks Mark (mep). I have a feeling in locations with low to moderate RFI the benefits of lower capacitance from no shield makes them superior to most shielded IC's. In high RFI areas it may be another story. I agree with the other Mark (MDP), I would be afraid of no shield with phono cable in any case, but they certainly appear to be great cables (especially for the price).
