please help. Im new to the forum, and I have a strange problem. I have a marantz 2270 that I bought refurbished and it is in perfect condition, I think. Recently an intermittent static in the right channel occurred. Its in the headphones and the floor speakers, it is in the right channel only. I tried new speaker wire, and listening through headphones with the speakers disconnected. It happens with the phono, cd player and receiver. I took it to a very reputable repair speacialist and he had it for 3 weeks and listened to it daily. He said its perfect, nothing wrong with it. I went to his store and listened to it for 30 minutes and he was correct. zero static. I paid him 30 dollars for his trouble. I took it home and set it up and the static appeared instantly. It is clearly an outside source causing the static. what could it be? I changed out my surge protector, changed to a different outlet. the static is still there. I tested the outlets for ground and they are wired properly.

Is it to close to my TV? Is the cable signal affecting it? Ive never encountered this. Thanks in advance for responding

If it's on the same circuit as the cable TV that can be the source of all kinds of noise issues especially with audio gear manufactured before the proliferation of cable.

Welcome to the forum.

Can you unplug everything but a source and the receiver and then try it?

I assume you have tried reversing the speakers to see if the issue stays in the right channel... If the issues goes with the speaker then the speaker is probably the issue. If it stays on the same side then issue resides elsewhere. Have you tried moving the system to a different location? This might help isolate if it is an issue with cable TV or other things on the same circuit as Jack had suggested.

Much easier to deal with an issue when you have isolated down exactly what or where the issue occurs.

I had the same problem with my 2270 ( which I still have in a box waiting to be totally restored) , replacing (or cleaning) the speaker relay fixed the problem. There are some you tube videos on cleaning the speaker relay.

Yes, I restored several 2270s over the years, the speaker relay often needed cleaning or replacing on many 2270s.
