Magico S5 Review

Thanks Bruce, I'm heading down to David's tomorrow for my second listening session with the S5's !

Alan Sircom also wrote a review in hifi+ which I thought was very descriptive of the S5s strengths. Same words and images I would use to describe listening to them.

It offers the lowest level of listener fatigue I have yet encountered under £100,000, and tells very clearly how micro resonant and ‘noisy’ many loudspeakers are.

I think that this sentence best describes the S5 virtues. A trully great speaker.

I love to read that sentence over and over ....

Yes they are sounding much better. They are still very detailed and dynamic but play a little more relaxed than before, not angry sounding. But Mark will challenge the anger issues with his source material that he brings tomorrow. The speaker seems to be getting more seamless from top to bottom.

This is the perfect amp for the Magicos:

MSB M202 mono amplifers 120/240 mint customer trade-in | Solid state | Bethel, Connecticut 06801 | AudiogoN - The High-end Audio Community

This is what I use. Class A, no negative feedback design. It gives a very natural, smooth and palpable sound, which is a bit on the warm side of neutral. I have both Spectral 360mk2 monos and dart at home - and both are gathering dust. MSB is much, much better.

At the price Perrota is asking, it is almost a give away (the reason probably is that they are so unknown, that he had to lower the price to some stupid low levels).

Hmmm. Maybe I can work a deal :)

Where's Joe?
