Magico S5 mk 2 in the house !

Thanks for the link ! So it seems there must be another manufacturer who supplies both shops and WA. I was under the impression that Tri-C makes them.

$199 is a great price ! I'm not sure, but WA charges $500 or thereabouts for theirs with WA logo.

I do not think that jack will fit under Magicos? My S7's are about 1 and 3/8 off the floor and the jack is 1 and 1/2 tall including the part that sits on top.

Adam - it doesn't look sturdy and couldn't the metal from the Jack ruin the bottom of the speaker?

It seems this $199 jack comes with the rubber insert, so no worries about the finish:

Someone knows the reason , why, according to Mike , you should never push S5 , from the front or from back ?

All the weight of the speaker is in the front. With a good push, it will topple over. I now know of TWO accidents. Dance with the speaker, as Bob said. I always get someone to give me a hand - one person on each SIDE of the speaker. Works like a charm.

Hi Adam .
I think many of us look forward with great interest , their impressions of the new S5 MK2. Especially comparison with the S5 Mk1
Best regards

The speakers are doing great. The only problem is ... I'm so busy at work right now (finishing each day at 23:00 or so, Sunday including) I do not have the time to listen, or to write much for that matter.

The direct comparo is a bit tricky, as I have sold S5 mk1 in December, and only got the mk2s 7 months later. So bearing in mind that aural memory can be tricky, I think that the S5 mk2 do sound better then the original mk1, at least in two very imortant areas:

1. Soundstaging. That was my only complain when I had switched from Wilson Sasha mk1 to Magico S5 mk1. The S5 mk1 were not really able to dissappear as easily as the Wilsons. The soundstage was never as deep and as layered as with the Sashas (or my Avalon Eidolon Vision). The mk2s is are much better than the mk1s in that regard. The soundstage is wide, deep, layered and 3D. The only two speakers that sounded better in that regard in my listening room were the Vivids K-1 and Magicos S1 mk2, which just disappeared completely (it may have something to do with the size of the speakers, in relation to the size of my listening room, which is only 14 feet by 19 feet - the S5 look quite imposing compared to the dimunitive S1s taking much more physical space).

2. Microdynamics. I feel the mk2s are more alive sounding than the S5 mk1, making the music much more engaging to listen to. Again - not quite the Vivid's level, but close enough (and without other problems that Vivids have).

I haven't heard much of a difference in the bass and HF. If there is a difference between the two, then it is smaller than in the two aspects I've mentioned and a more direct comparo would be in order.

All in all - money well spent. The speaker looks much nicer and sounds better in two aspects that are important to me.

Adam , thanks for the effort , did not know of their problem with work.I'm thinking about starting the path that leads to change speakers ,And these ( or S3 MK2) are some, of my list.
Regards

For the first time in a couple of weeks, I was able to finish work a little bit earlier at 8PM, and listen to some tunes for a few hours (what a joy !). Earlier this morning, I have reinstalled Windows Server 2012 OS on my server - I've been using Win 10 for the past couple of months. I have installed the Win 10 to be able to try Roon, as it was not possible to easily install Roon on Win 2012 (with the latest Audiophile Optimizer 2.0 there is no need to downgrade to Win 10, as you can install Roon on Win Server 2012 as well).

All I can say is - WOW. I've read somewhere on CA that the Win 10 is as good (or even better than Win 2012), but no way - the Win Server 2012 + Audiophile Optimizer 2.0 is way better than Win 10 + Audiophile Optimizer 2.0. The background is trully black right now, the soundstaging is spectacular. Speakers disappear completely.

I've mentioned before that I'm not certain the tweeter sounds any better than in the S5 mk 1. With my old server setup back, it is no contest right now. I haven't heard better HF performance in my room - ever. The HF air and extension, smoothness are benchmark setting.

It seems that downgrading to Win 10 had a negative effect on my system SQ as well. I didn't realise that before, as I tried 15+ different speakers during my 6 months wait between the sale of the S5 mk 1 and the S5 mk 2 arrival, and the change took place when I was changing the speakers. With this issue straighten up, my system sounds simply spectacular right now.

Jerome,

I love that color too. IMO this is the nicest m-cast color available. My previous S5 mk 1 were also in bronze m-cast and it worked really well in my room.

Installing the spikes requires help. I will probably need to ask my neighbour to come over and help me out. If they sound even better (which they should), then WOW !

Winter is listening season for me. I do not have much time to listen during the summer months and atumn, but when December comes ... I try to catch up.

I've been listening to the speakers almost every day for the past month and I have to say ... I absolutely love them ! The best sound I've ever had in my listening room.

The soundstaging is simply spectacular - especially for such a big speaker. They are almost as good as the Vivids in that regard, and we all now that Vivids are soundstaging champs. The speakers disappear far better than any minimonitors I've tried in my room.

Recently I have demoed them for a non-audiophile friend of mine. His first question after listening to a few cuts was 'do you have the speakers in the walls' ? He was listening to the speakers, he was sitting in front of them, but thought the speakers he saw were not even connected !

I've told him that ha just learned what stereo is, lol. Still, such a grand illusion would not be possible if the speakers didn't disappear as good as they did.

Every story ends. I just bid farewell to my S5 mk 2 today ... this is the first time of my life when I'm selling something with a regret !
