How much power will they need? Perhaps to early to know that.

It's not too early to know how much power they will need. Jeff Fritz provided a link to the Magico press release that contains the specs. Magico recommends 50w to 300w of power

Given the low sensitivity of 86.5dB 1w/1m at 4 ohms, I would lean towards having 300 watts on tap vice 50 watts. I would choose a SS amp with plenty of current.

I can’t imagine the S2 being less than exceptional in its price/performance range. I know first hand how good the S3 is and now that I’ve had the S5 running in for 300+ hours in my room I can say with confidence the S5 is a step beyond the S3.

It’s interesting that the construction of the S2 cabinet includes a single continuous extrusion. An Impressive design element that should contribute significantly to its sound or lack of sound, that is. Certainly the effort to eliminate cabinet coloration (distortion) in the design of the S series is a significant component of their exceptional performance (and fundamental to Magico’s design strategy in general). The continuous extrusion in the S2 cabinet may prove to be something special.

The Gen 8 nano-tec driver cones will deliver more to the end result than the cabinet construction from the previous version. And if the metal comes from China and gets whacked by Mr Trump's 100% import tariff then get your order in today because come 21 January the price of Magico speakers made from Chinese metal is going to sky rocket. As far as I know all A series enclosures are made in China so expect big price rise on those also. And as far as I know M series carbon comes from Canada so they will be whacked with a 60% import tariff. Big price increases are on the horizon.
 
Magico prices going up 60% affects no one of consequence and the 100% tariff on China is already in place , research some more, report ...!

Can you please let us know where you get the 100% tariff on China already in effect. I know there is a 100% tariff on Chinese EVs but I don't believe Magico is in that business.

Given all of this I might need to jump on a used pair of M2 and be done with it.

The tariff discussion was around the Magico speakers. Today there isn't a 100% tariff on every product from China. Now that might change but that isn't the case today.

I will agree to disagree as to what is contributing (and how much relative to the others) to the outstanding sound quality of the new S-series product line from Magico. Now that I have the new S5 in place I can say from the moment it was powered up and producing sound it was the quietest cabinet I have experienced in my home. That being said, any device is the sum of its parts and everything matters in the end.

Regarding the extrusions for the S-series cabinets, I was told prior to the announcement of the S2 that the aluminum for the S3/S5 cabinets was from domestic (USA) suppliers and machined (extruded/milled, etc) in California. I did not corroborate so that factoid has not been fact checked.
