A used pair of those M5s for $20K+ would be a great speaker today.
I agree- just make sure you have arc welder amps to drive them.

I agree, the prices are getting stratospheric. Maybe I'm biased, but given the many design features borrowed from the M Pro and S7 (e.g: machined 3D convex top plate, computer-modelled polymer midrange enclosure (as used in the S3), integrated outriggers, diamond-coated BE tweeter, new bass drivers with graphene dust caps & the fact their newly designed 6" graphene midrange drivers were filtered up to the M3), for me the S5 Mk2 is the sweet spot in thier product range. What gets me is the $172K price. The M3 may soon approach $90K according to a friend who just visited a dealer. This does not bode well for the price of a future M1 or M2. The M line looks to be more than twice the price of the S line.
There was also an M6 that predates the M5. It had a cylindrical all-aluminum cabinet. It was a massive hunk of metal and available around the time of the V series and Mini.

Yes, I remember that one. However, that speaker was so limited in production, it was almost a vapor ware. I'm sure most ppl - apart from diehard Magico fans - don't know it even existed.
The M5 was the second Magico speaker for me. The first was the v3. The M5 was and is a gorgeous speaker. The aluminum faceplate and the wood body are striking. It is still a great sounding speaker and can be had, as a previous poster mentioned, for a relative bargain.

Really? Since when was the M Pro re-released in Magico's current "product range"? :dunno: But ok, if they're the rules...there is a pair of M Pro's for sale on A'gon for $72,500. I figure I could get maybe $27.5k for my S5 Mk2's in Mcoat, meaning I would have to cough up another $45k to pick up the M Pro's. That doesn't sound too sweet to me. Heck, I could sell my integrated amp & buy a Vitus SS-103, SL-103 + an extra pair of high end cables for that coin! The "sweet spot" is a used pair of M Project's..........

Firstly you're quoting a now edited post. Secondly, a side discussion about which area of your system may bring the biggest gain in SQ has nothing to do with my view that the S5 Mk2's are currently the sweet spot in Magico's (current) range based on cost/performance. The M3's are double the price. The M6's are 4 times the price. I advocate a 'balanced system approach' and aim for the best bang for my buck. Clearly your pockets are deeper than most around here, putting you in maybe the top 2% of audiophiles. The sweet spot in my books has nothing to do with the cream on the top.A $1mil dollar question remains: what would you bring bigger SQ increase ?
I was having similar dillema when upgrading from S5 mk 2 to M3. Two dealers I had spoken with said upgrading speakers would bring bigger bigger SQ increase. Vitus monoblocks have to wait for me![]()

So, I'm just curious. If you had 45 burning a hole in your pocket. Which would you rather have...m-pros with the existing SIA-025 or the existing s5mk2 with new Vitus separates? Keeping it all in the same family of course [emoji4]

A guy like me? Tell you what, why don't you put your money where your mouth is and post your system like I have. Otherwise your comments are just heresay. And yes, i've heard the M3'sA guy like u it always comes down to money and what u currently own.....
Take your line list, sell everything after your amps, buy M series and hook them up with lamp cords..... it will be a revelation how much better ur system will be over the S series system u currently have.......
That's a good question. I hugely admire the M series and Magico's approach to filtering down technology from their reference speakers to lower series/models, but advocate a balanced system approach as I said. Footnote: I don't have the room for a tt in my inner city apartment, so my system is digital-only.So, I'm just curious. If you had 45 burning a hole in your pocket.
