Mike,

I'm surprised you didn't pick up a pair while they were available. I would love to hear those babies.

Ken

I hadn't heard a pair by the time they were all sold out. But, I'm going in a different direction anyway.

There are many reference loudspeakers on the market today, more then ever before. Just choose your flavor. ;)

I did. [emoji6]

But yes, I agree.

Mike,

I auditioned the S3 and S5 and they just weren't my cup of tea but I would love to hear the trickle down improvements with the S7 and how they stack up to my D3.

Best,
Ken

Amp pairing is key. When paired with great amps like Pass, Vitus, Soulution or even some top tube amps, they can sound really really good.

The M Project has been an outstanding success for Magico. Kudos to Alon and his team.

I bet there will be a reprise of the M Project in one form or another.

Hi Le Roy,

Did Alon promise M-Project owners exclusivity through a limited edition? If he didn't, I think he's crazy for not building more of them. With all the great press, I think he could sell several hundred pairs.

"While owning one of the M Projects is swell if you’re one of The Fifty, it does rather leave the rest of us in the lurch. And leaves a reviewer like me in a tough spot: Why bother to discuss a speaker that virtually no one can buy?

I asked Alon Wolf this very thing. Why limit access to a product this excellent and groundbreaking? Why not keep building M Pros on a custom-order basis?

Wolf’s first (less satisfying) answer was that exclusivity and pride of ownership were what he’d guaranteed the M Pro’s fifty purchasers, and he would not go back on his word to the men and women who’d forked out $129,000 purely on his promise that this was the best thing Magico could devise.

Wolf’s second (more satisfying) answer—and one of the two reasons I’m writing this review—was that many of the technologies showcased in the M Project have already found their way into other Magico speakers—the new Q7 Mk II that Robert will soon review and the S7 that is still a work in progress—and will shortly find their way into future models."

Wow, that's ashame. The greatest speakers you'll (n)ever buy.

Ken

Don't worry. They will soon be second best. Nothing is static. I am looking forward to the, I hope, S5 MK2. If it happens I am guesstimating a $10K-$15K upgrade. Hope on the low side.

Very true, Bud. I'm also really hoping for the S5 Mk2 upgrade to come out soon for the all the folks that made a big investment in the S5. The diamond-coated beryllium tweeter and graphene/carbon nanotube midrange speaker would be a cutting edge upgrade to an already great speaker.

Best,
Ken

Hi Ken, while it's true that all of the M Project speakers are spoken for, there are rumors and posts of some dealers that have unopened crates. That goes back more than a few months so I don't know if that is still true.

But has been pointed out, there will be derivations of this outstanding speaker. Great news for Magico fans.

And of course in time there will be used ones for sale. Audiophiles have been known to change gear once in a while.
