Magico Announces the A3 Loudspeaker

Magico seems to have moved away from stand mounted two-ways since the Q1. Considering that the Mini basically launched the company, I'm curious to know why they have not developed an S Mini or M Mini. Perhaps in time. An A Mini might be very nice, but I would like to see a very high quality, no holds bared design in their reference M line. It would be frighteningly expensive, but there are a lot of small rooms which would benefit from a super high quality Mini. I think the real issue is how could they sell an M Mini that costs more than an S3II? I chose the Mini II over the V3 at the time, but I don't know how many other people made that same choice.

Why did you choose the Mini II over the V3?

Yes in Ohio. Northern part.

I think if you check the Magico website there is a dealer near you, no? Let us know if you go hear the A3’s and what you think.

One interesting thing is A3 uses 1.1" pure beryllium tweeter, same dome area as diamond-coated 1.1" beryllium tweeter in M6. Up until M6, different variations of Magico tweeters in Q, S and M series have always been 1" dome.

Magico said A3 tweeter is purpose built for A series.

M3 also has the same size 28mm (1.1 inch) tweeter - I believe it is custom made for Magico by Morel (the 25mm ones are custom made by Scan Speak).

You're right. Seems there's a typo on Magico site regarding M3 tweeter. It says 1", but it does also say 2.8cm.

Why did you choose the Mini II over the V3?

Sorry Mep, I just saw your question.

At the time, I listened to the Mini II in three different systems, and the V3 in two systems. Only one time did I hear them both in opposite sides of the same room. I think this was in the original Sound by Singer room in NYC. I thought the V3 did not sound quite as resolving and there was a slight discontinuity between the drivers. I loved the look of the Mini II and thought it was built to a higher standard. I read that the parts quality was better. It sounded better to me, though it did not have quite the same low frequency extension. Nevertheless, the bass quality was better and the overall sound was more cohesive. The speakers disappeared in the room. I had Eggleston Rosa speakers at the time which were about the same size as the V3. I did not have room treatment, and the Rosa overloaded my small room just a bit, so I did not want to take that risk with the V3.

I absolutely love the Mini II and have no regrets. They are superb sounding and looking. I was just not wow'd by the V3.

I have asked at Magico about the new tweeter, and got the following reply:

'although Morel does the final assembly, not a single part of our M and now A series tweeters is actually made there.'

I agree. I just can't do that without hearing them first. That is a lot of money to not like them.

I am new to the forum and the Magico A3's really have my interest. I now have the Goldenear Triton One's which I am happy with sonically but the appearance of them is not good IMHO.

The A3's are really attractive to me and I will be anxious to audition them.

Don in Northern VA.
