Magico A5 on the right.

After I bought the salon 2 demos from the dealer he set the f228 be's in the same spot vacated with the same top of the line ML gear and I have to say after hearing the salon 2 and how the inert cabinet really let go of the notes I sensed the 228 boxes couldn't quite disappear. If I hadn't just got done with the ultima's maybe I wouldn't have noticed.

Not positive but I believe the 228b is around $16k, where the A5 is closer to $20k.

I used to have the Revel Performa 2 52's, the cabinet was substantial. The newer Performa 3 came in at less money and my personal taste still preferred the P2.

It would be interesting to see how other speakers compared in the same test.

Ok, so I looked it up for myself ........228b -10k vs. A5 - 21k

complete apples to oranges comparison IMO, If one wants to compare the A5 the Salon2 is the one IMO

Revel confused me when the came out with he $10k version which was like a 208 with brillium tweeter, it's now the 228b, I confused it with the newest one 328b that is around the price of the discontinued Studio 2. A closer comparison would be 228b and A3.

Most musical instruments luv their cabinets to sing which makes the music sing - that is the way they are designed.

So are a lot of speakers :P

The only comparison being made here is the stiffness of the front baffle. Why have we begun comparing the retail cost of the entire speaker?

perhaps if you read Mike's post (#1) and realized his comparison and then took into account the price differential you would understand ...........

The build quality of the A5/A3 is similar. If anything, the A3 might be even stiffer since it is smaller. I suspect the results would have been similar. What's interesting is Sean Olive's reply, basically saying enclosure flux is a nonfactor :|

Rigidity is only one factor of a speaker,. You would vote with your ears anyway.

Indeed, it shows why Magico uses aluminum. On the other end of the spectrum, Beno of Gamut told me he uses very little bracing in his speaker designs and likes the result.
