Magico A5’s Arrive!!!!

Unfortunately, I only have "reports" (with some pictures/videos) from my friends who are there at the moment.
I should have been there with them, but something came up in the last moment...

Video is not so clear, so I cannot see exact models. Amps appear to be 511's + rest of the stuff from series 7, just like in 2016. with M Project.

Sorry for the bad picture - it's a capture from Viber video.

The A5’s never got a genuine “premier”, having come out during “the covid years”. Now they get their time on the red carpet.

Re: Magico A5’s Arrive!!!!

An interesting read, using Google translation, of Hi Fi Review HK of the Magico A5 (Issue 417, May 22, 2022). Have not seen this posted on Audioshark so I hope it is not a duplicate.

Some of the translations are confusing/incorrect, others can be taken as humorous (not purposely). Ultimately, I think they liked it.

Magico A5's delivered today, very happy after a very long wait. A quick speaker set, some listening and first impressions (not surprising all were positive ;)). I've already heard things on recordings I don't recall hearing before. Now on to hearing the speakers evolve as they loosen up a bit.

Nice.

What is the rest of your system?
What are your previous speakers?

Sorry for the slow reply. I created a signature with the associated gear. I hope it appears below.

Here in Colorado the previous speakers were a 25+ year old pair of Dynaudio Crafft monitors. It's a long story but now it's nice to hear something below 80Hz.

I'll follow up with some additional info when I get home. Thanks for the comments.

Congratulations, i hope you enjoy them.
My A5s took a ridiculous amount of time to break-in.
A first, I was worried they were a poor match for my Humboldt- sounded un-musical, if technically impressive.
Now I can hardly tear myself away- sensational sound- accurate but never cool, involving, realistic. Astonishing imaging and transparency- there is NO suggestion that music is coming from the speakers!
Hard-hitting bass and lovely midrange- treble is perfect when toe-in is adjusted to face straight at the listener in an equilateral triangle.
Contrary to a couple of reviewers' comments, I found that careful and precise speaker placement is CRITICAL to great sound and imaging, they can't just be plonked anywhere.
I really like the A5s and can't think of another speaker i would like to try in their price range or even double!

This is my first in home experience/purchase of any Magico product so I am really enjoying the entire process. I have admired Magico products since I first heard the Mini at (if I remember correctly) CES in Las Vegas.

Even at this early stage I agree with your statement regarding placement of the A5 in the listening space. Not that you implied or stated this, but I don't sense it's because the A5 is difficult to place. I think, as someone posted in another forum, the brand is "... chameleon-like: very responsive to system and room context and to set up with very little coloration or character of its own." I have read several discussions about this characteristic of Magico speakers in general (transparency to the upstream components, room, etc) but now that I have some first hand experience with the A5, I am starting to understand it more clearly.

Just shut the system down for the night and can't wait to turn it back on in the morning.

That's a respectable collection of electronics, I bet the Esoteric/Shunyata combination sounds wonderful. I'm a big fan of both brands, and Magico also. I'm contemplating Magico M6 but my dealer says a 6+ month wait for a pair of those.

Postal items from the US to Australia are being held at LAX for up to 3 weeks waiting for space on an aircraft to get it to Australia.

Believe what you will. Posted rates and what I actually pay are 2 very different things.

Yes, the Esoteric K-01XD is remarkable and certainly enhanced in a very musical way by the Shunyata products. I've always admired the Esoteric brand but for one reason or another never made a focused effort to listen and learn more about it. I can thank Mike for turning me on to it while visiting his place (I had been a long time dCS user). The Esoteric Master Sound Discrete DAC made a mighty impression on me. Paired with the N20 it gives me access to my all my discs as well as virtually any music I want to stream.

Now that the A5s arrived I can blast Florence & The Machine Qobuz playlists to show them who's boss. Only 375 more hours to go!

The M6 is an aspirational speaker for me. Please keep us posted whenever you are able to receive a pair.

50+ hours into break-in and the A5s are just starting to sound coherent. The sound field is still rather constrained and the reverberant field is dry but the dynamic range, lack of any strain in the treble and expanded bass makes up for any current shortcomings. If I had any doubts when they were installed, I now can’t wait to I hear where the A5 lands when it’s all said and done.

Break-in period is part of the experience of new speakers that I enjoy. I know some folks like to accelerate the process by playing constantly, but then they miss out on that part of the new speaker experience.

...The Esoteric Master Sound Discrete DAC made a mighty impression on me.

My Esoteric DAC is probably still a slab of aluminium in the Tokyo factory. My enthusiasm for its arrival manifested itself yesterday when it took me 2+ hours to change the height of one shelf in my YG rack by one inch so it would fit. However last night I rethought the stack arrangement and I'm going to have to pull it apart and start again. As sturdy as the YG rack is (the load limit of the bottom shelf is 97 kg!) they are a p.i.t.b. to assemble or change shelf heights.
