Luxman D-08u

Please, notes that Luxman can not have now the mechanism of the SACD/CD.
So if Luxman must be repair product after 10 year's....I think it will very difficult.
I have the K-03XS and have post some informations about the sound of this one...

That’s simply not true. I will meet with the owners of Luxman tomorrow and confirm, but they have a different source for CD/SACD transports.

Personally, if I’m around in ten years I’d be shocked if I was still listening to my D08u. Not that I don’t enjoy every moment listening to it ... I just can’t seem to keep anything in my system nearly that long ...
Don’t know about the Esoteric, but I enjoy the Lux every bit as much as the DA2/TSDX combo in a different system. Hard to imagine anyone ending up disappointed in this choice.

Highly doubtful that going from K-03X to D-08u would be a sideways move. This would be a significant upgrade for you. A more reasonable analysis of a sideways move would be K-01X to D-08u.

I own a K-03X and have had a demo D-08u in my system for about a week. Greg is spot on - definitely an upgrade to my ears.

Lux D-08u is in the category as the Esoteric K-01xS. I don't like to split hairs. I'll either either one. BUT will lean more to the Esoteric cause it does Roon.

Very strange because the distributor in France stop to sell them ...that's my dealer says...

I have not listend the D-08U but I have a K-03XS in my house. Just to say, with the clock GRIMM CC1, it's beautiful. Times to times I use K-03XS only as transport and use ML 360S DAC to listen some CD. It's depend the CD...Very curious..times to times, not the same sound, times to times, very difficult to know the differencies.

I have not heard the K-01Xs or the K-03Xs or the impact of external clocks, so can't comment. If I were to upgrade with Esoteric, I would probably go with the K-01Xs rather than add a clock to a machine that was announced in 2014, but the K-01Xs would be a pretty pricey move in the U.S. compared to the D-08u. Regarding French distribution, is it possible that Luxman is taking over distribution themselves (as they did in the U.S., when they also dropped prices in acknowledgement of a more efficient business model)?

K-03XS is the same price than the D-08U in France.

Do you have a link for USA ?
Just for curiosity.
Thanks

I don't have a link that shows both brands. Separately I see following U.S. list prices: D-08u $15K, K-03Xs $13K, K-01Xs $22K. The D-08u was introduced 2014. As you know, the Xs models are recent but IMO somewhat modest steps above prior X models introduced in 2014.

I have K-03X and K-03XS at home...
The differencies are impercebtible.
Perhaps a little more bass and better medium...But I'm not sure...

The problem is not the transport but the CD player lens. All dealer in France has received a letter in this direction.
There is no lens for this CD player in the future.

'Lens'? What is it actually? Part of laser assembly? Does it fail often? If they already know there are/will be no replacement parts available, they should probably withdraw the product from marketing. What does the letter say exactly? This sounds like it might be a hoax?

The letter is for the dealers.
I don't think it is a hoax.
Let see in the future.

Glad I just dropped them. Financial woes tied to their parent Gibson guitars and crazy constant upgraditis for obvious cash grab reasons, which they tried to force on dealers too, was enough for me to part ways.

T+A, Luxman, among others, make fine CD/SACD players thank you very much.

Very interesting. Thanks for the honest assessment Mike.

The D-08U is DISCONTINUED as per Luxman (Jeff). Their new CD/SACD Models should be announced in the fall. Stay Tuned!!

Glad to hear that they aren’t abandoning physical media and compact discs.

Look forward to reading about these new players.

Just hooked up the D-08u with Pass Int-250. Love the sound. I plan to add a music server for this combo. I am thinking Lumin U1/T2 or Aurender N10.

What music server/streamer are you using with the D-08u?
