I'm wondering how significant the sq loss is when the Lumin app volume control is set below 100? I've been
told that from 60 to 100% the loss should be close to insignificant. (I haven't yet gone to the trouble to try
to listen test this yet).

I ask because, with the EQ software I'm using, the amp vol control must be bypassed. So I only have the
choice of a separate volume attenuator or the Lumin vol control. The lumin vol control might be a good alternative so as to avoid the long lengths of mic cable associated with the attenuator which, I'm told,
will have a much greater impact on sq. Thanks

For Lumin S1, please turn off Digital Audio Output to use the 32-bit digital volume from ESS9018:

Also note that the Lumin RCA output has lower voltage (volume) than XLR output. So you may want to compare XLR with more digital attenuation against RCA with less digital attenuation.

Please test carefully with a reasonable amp volume for transitions among different playback scenarios and sampling rates (especially DSD) before you go ahead to bypass the amp volume.
