Lumin U2 Mini

Mini 2 arrived yesterday!
Setup was a breeze. Hardest part was remembering my Tidal and Qobuz passwords.
No issues using my android tablet. Worked flawlessly.
Any way to change the background from white to dark?

Congratulations!
Hope you enjoy your time with LUMIN U2 Mini!

On the app, press the cog icon and scroll until you see 'Theme'
There are 4 to choose from:

Light: The original theme. Light grey with gradients and shadows
Dark: Dark grey with gradients and shadows
White: Mostly black text on a flat white background
Black: Mostly white text on a flat black background

Thanks!

Anyone use the mini as a preamp with its LEEDH digital signal processing?

Pardon me if these questions have been asked before. I'm a bit late to the party

Anyone use the mini as a preamp with its LEEDH digital signal processing?

I use the X1 direct to amp, using Leedh volume control. Sounds amazing to me. Have not done a true A/B with a pre-amp, but I did hear the amp at the dealer, with a pre-amp, and I don’t feel like I’ve given anything up. Could be a “real” a/b would make me feel differently, but I don’t think I’m the only one reporting that Leedh volume control works well.

When I had volume control in my previous amp, I found that using a combination of Leedh with the amp’s volume control sounded best to me. I kept the Lumin at 94, and used the amp to do the rest. Not sure why this would be the case, but it was consistent to my ear, that arrangement gave me the most of what I like.

I guess in the end, try it both ways.

If you have a way to attenuate the volume after the Lumin then you should try both ways. Set the Lumin to 100 and adjust the volume after it... then reduce the Lumin to 99 and adjust the volume after it again. The reason this makes a difference is that LeedH processing takes places in the Lumin at all volume settings other than 100. You may decide that the processing adds something that you enjoy to the final sound.

Yes. There are users using it this way.

After you have familiarize with Lumin app control of it, you may A/B compare Lumin volume control against your preamp volume control (with Lumin volume control being off) to see which sounds better to you in your setup for the music you listen to. You may even try bypassing the preamp, but start playback with Lumin volume at a very low level.

So anyone can share their experience when comparing the U2 Mini to other streamers they listened to?

Lumin U2 mini is on my purchasing radar. There are a few other contenders as well. As much as I would like to stay in the Esoteric ecosystem, stumping up $10K for a N-03T is a tough ask just for playing Spotify.

U2 Mini, naturally, is perfect for Esoteric DAC when it comes to Esoteric native DSD compatibility. It also has Leedh Processing Volume, FLAC radio, and some other additional features.

Note that you can use Esoteric Sound Stream app to control playback from Lumin when you're not using Spotify Connect or Tidal Connect, if you have a preference for Esoteric color scheme. Functionally you're actually staying in Esoteric ecosystem.

I didn't have the patience to learn how to drive the Sound Stream app properly, it wasn't intuitive enough for someone who was used to native Spotify app. I only used Sound Stream for the N-01 firmware updates. Which always worked perfectly.

I haven't decided what network transport to buy. For the time being the Playstation 3 is absolutely killing it. Unclocked D1X/PS3 has now made the sonic leap over my clocked N-01. I can only imagine what N-01XD must sound like as a Spotify Connect device. I haven't priced U2 mini in this market yet, but I know it will be much cheaper than N-03T. I was inclined to N-03T simply because of the Esoteric esthetic and clock input. But I've now learned when using the preferred USB connection that neither is clocked.

Has anyone upgraded the power supply with the U2 mini?
Seemed to be a popular upgrade with the U1 mini

I did. I was lent a Sean Jacobs hybrid DC3/DC4 LPS to replace the stock Lumin U2 mini power supply. It has only 3 weeks and I can say this is a major upgrade. There is a significant increase in clarity to the music as well as a decrease in noise. The power supply is not fully being broken in but it is clear this is going to be a big step up sound quality.

Lumin D2/ U1/U2 mini Upgrade Kit - Teddy Pardo Audio

some surgery involved.
Will probably void the warranty

It will. Loser dealers that promote this should be dropped. These messed with units (and I would like to use a stronger word than “messed”) end up on Audiogon, or as trades with no disclosure of previous tampering and then problems happen with the unit and then what? We have a unit coming back from Mark (distributor) who graciously fixed it for us which I’m sure was some messed with unit we took on trade. This needs to STOP!

Lumin's U2 Mini has been a significant improvement over my Bryston BDP-Pi, which was a significant improvement over my Simaudio MiND 180, which was a significant improvement over a couple Bluesound products I had, which were significant improvements over the Logitech products I had (Sqeezebox)?

It's been a fun albeit expensive journey. :)

Now I'm considering a second U2 Mini to replace a second BDP-Pi.

For the record, I was just streaming Qobuz from my Mac Mini into my Denafrips Pontus II via USB, listening to some remastered jazz from the 1960s. The bass sounded muddy, almost terrible. I went back to the BPD-Pi and it was really good. It would sound even better on my U2, but that unit is downstairs on my other system.
