Hi all,

I have a Lumin u2 mini feeding a denafrips hermes into a denafrips terminator. When I set the Lumin u2 to upscale to 256 dsd I do not see this displayed on the Hermes or the terminator. What am I doing wrong? Does the Lumin not actually upsample to dsd without roon? Hopefully I’m missing something as my DAC is not receiving a 256 DSD file.

Thanks for your help

In Lumin app, turn off Volume Control (for digital output of DSD).

This is not necessary for Lumin with analog output from built-in DAC.

Wowzers!! Testing with D2 BNC out to Ruby SA-KI. I had always ran Lumin Volume Control ON (to control volume listening from other room) OFF now, for a week of wild fun!

(thought that Lumin VOL 100% defeated circuit, so just left in ON at 100%. OFF makes a pretty louder difference!! I don't need louder but I may be hearing better resolution. Sounds like it?, so far. Yeah, its waay different. Testing.

I don't think the Marantz will receive DSD at s/pdif but it's still a massive jump whatever signal has changed with Lumin VOL OFF. It will accept MQA** at s/pdif.

**Lumin, please get rid of MQA license penalty, I won't buy an MQA device.<period.<. Yes, I've conversed with Berkeley and he shames it too.. U2 says MQA, I wait for NON-MQA, or "ship has sailed". My Berkeley is MQA but sunk cost. Not buying anything porking me now for MQA penalty. Sorry.

Peter, thank you for being here.

Turning OFF Lumin Volume Control OFF is obviously transformative. If you are digital out of Lumin, to another D/A. Try it. Like opening the venetian blinds to daylight. Not always better but good option!

For the existing devices for which the MQA royalty had already been paid, and as long as we state MQA in our product specs in our web site, MQA cannot possibly be removed from existing models, for two reasons:

1. What you suggested will break many consumer laws in many regions.
2. Without MQA decoding, Tidal MQA and MQA CD playback sound quality will be degraded.

This is not happening - hypothetically, if we really want to remove a key feature, I think we'll have to change the model name to something different while making sure users who bought the units before the change get to use the feature.

We supported MQA in the first place only because many users asked for it, and without it you get degraded playback from Tidal MQA or MQA CD.

Unlike some other brands, Lumin does not force MQA processing on non-MQA PCM tracks.

Makes perfect sense and, thanks again.
