New here, looking in the used market to get into a Lumin streamer.Won’t be able to test so I need to do some research before making the leap, drawn to Lumin due to it’s reputation of having an analog sound signature. On a budget,so I’m looking at either the U1 mini or D1,they seem to be fairly close in price with the D1 being a little cheaper. How would they compare?I do have a 12v LPS,so that could help sway me towards the D1.Any advise or help would be greatly appreciated.Anyone got a great deal on either of these units??;)

I do have a Chord 2qute DAC,now I could do.....
A-Keep the DAC and get the U1 mini
B-Sell the DAC and get the D1 and save $700 to $800
I understand the DAC in the D1 is pretty good, curious how it stacks up against the Chord DAC?

I've never owned or even heard any of the Chord DAC's so don't know anything about their presentation but have owned a D1 and it is a pretty "laid back" sounding unit which I guess you could call "analog sounding." I sold it and replaced it with the Teac NT-505 which uses the AKM 4497 DAC chipset and provides a little more detail and extension on both ends than the Wolfson in the Lumin. The Teac has some "Lumin DNA" and runs from the Lumin app. It's in your price range and also has the ability to be used as a DAC for other sources. The U1 Mini is a great unit by all accounts and if you like the Chord would be a smarter move to me and allows you more flexibility in the future.

Thanks for taking the time to reply! I would assume the U1 mini would be the better streamer because it’s newer and without a DAC compared to the similar priced D1.I would prefer black, the D1 is only available in silver,U1 mini has the black option.

Thanks guys, got a pretty good deal on a slightly used U1 mini, soon to be a member of team Lumin!

Dvboy, I believe that you will be pleasantly surprised at how good the Lumin performs on an absolute level, and seriously impressed that this quality of sound comes at such a reasonable price.

The usefulness of the Lumin app and the world-class support available from Peter Lie and others on this forum are icing on the cake.

Best of luck with your purchase!

Thanks, really appreciate that.My first streamer I purchased was 2 weeks ago,the Aluralic Aries Mini, liked the layout and convenience of using an iPad.The sound on the other hand was not very dynamic and for lack of a better term “digital” sounding, sold it shortly afterwards.Hoping the Lumin has a more organic dynamic kind of sound. One thing that does concern me while I wait for the Lumin to be delivered is the length of the Ethernet cable. It’s going in a room that has a 100 foot run from the modem.Download speeds are over 600 mbps,so it’s plenty fast but will that long run cause any kind of issues regarding sound??

All true, very satisfied with the sound coming out of this unit.Couldn’t resist the temptation of getting the Sbooster LPS.At first when I plugged in the Sbooster there wasn’t the impact I was hoping for,50 hrs later the improvements were heard!!According to the manual the Sbooster requires 100hrs to sound its best, wow,if I get any more improvements I will be very pleasantly surprised.Overall very pleased with this unit, for anyone who is considering one,get a LPS.The extra cost is worth it.
