Hi All,

This is my first post.

I hoping to get some information and help for an issue with my Lumin S1.
It takes an annoyingly long time for it to start playing a song after changing songs/albums. I'm using a wired ethernet connection and the Lumin app. There is an excessively long wait before it plays the new song. The same thing happens if I scrub to to a different part of a playing song. This seems to have started a few years ago and is progressively getting worse.

To test my hardware, wiring, network, and connection speed I removed a Bluesound Powernode from a different room and connected it using the same connections the Lumin was using for power and ethernet cables. The Bluesound Powernode changes songs in a split second. No issues. I switched back to the Lumin S1 and same excessive delay before it plays a new song.

I have automatic firmware updates enabled and Lumin app on the iphone is version 8.8.0.

This testing was done using Tidal HiFi through the Lumin app on my iphone 12pro as well as an Ipad 11.9 pro. I also listened to songs ripped from CD's in FLAC from my Synology NAS DS220j with MinimServer 2.2.

It doesn't seem to make much difference whether it's in Tidal or NAS.

Has anyone come across this on the S1 or other Lumin products and found a solution? Any help is greatly appreciated.

My ios iphone app is showing 8.8.1 at the app store. My D2 is on version 16.0d firmware.

(edit: except for the endrant my guess is that 99.9% of issues are caused by ios/cupertino)

This ios app version is the most freezing crashing thing since I started with it 5 years ago. I can count on it freezing up regularly - but the music continues to play. I am happy to say that when it actually crashes/closes and I re-open it it returns to where it was in the playlist and the song is never interrupted.

Sometimes in the playlist, when it hasn't crashed, and after looking in a search result page (Qobuz or Tidal) and then swiping back to the playlist it often doesnt show the song that is now playing - the arrow pointer playing is stuck on a previous song, it didn't follow the list. I forgot how I deal with it, probably close the app and reopen.

I will still say/repeat that typing into the search box then looking up and seeing red letters because its trying to search a nas, or something that isn't attached, and never has been attatched, is THE biggest PITA of all time. I only search QB or Tidal but it still opens the search box to a nothing burger box. Silly. (okay, last time I'm mentioning that)

Hi XRS. Regarding the app freezing. I sometimes get this with any app on iOS (something somewhere becomes unstable). A full restore of the phone usually fixes. The LUMIN iOS app is normally very stable. If removing and reloading the LUMIN App doesn't help, I would try a full phone/tablet restore next.

Regarding the Red Text. I could be wrong in figuring out what might be happening, but the search box is dependent on the currently opened tab. So if one of the following tabs is active, the search box will be searching your local server.

However, if no music server is connected then none of those tabs should show.
Check that nothing is showing here:
l1-server-selection.jpg

So for searching Qobuz or TIDAL you would need to first activate the appropriate tab here (second or third from right):

Then the search should work as expected. When Qobuz or TIDAL tab is activated, it should never be trying search a local music source.

Let me know if it's still typing red in these circumstances.

A change of IP address of the source files is often the cause for local file playback being slow.

Please make sure you have a static IP for the NAS, or the a reserved IP for it in the router DHCP reservation table.

Re-scan MinimServer. After it completes, in Lumin app, Reload the Library for MinimServer.

As for Tidal, please toggle the Google DNS setting Lumin app - settings - Options under S1 - About. See if it makes a difference. We do a larger prebuffer than others, so it can take time.

Mr Lie!, hi Peter, thank you, and for the walk through. Will be back after restoring ios.

ps. no library here but I've got an eye on the L2, would/will be fun to set that up.

Peter,
quick update - I have not touched reseting anything yet but, yes, as you suggested, my iphone itself has been freezing on the Apple inbuilt ios apps (image magnifier). So, as you advised, ios is in fact bugged on my end.
Rich

ps. My D2 BNC>RCA is feeding the D/A of a Ruby SA-KI CD player. Pretty cool. I for sure am getting another Lumin box. Will keep you posted. Back with you later on the other stuff.
