Lumin P1 arrives at Suncoast Audio

Lumin P1 review by highfidelity.pl

Great review, Peter. Congratulations! It seems from the review that the volume control is a convenience for external input sources but the reviewer still prefers a good external preamp. But he loves Leedh, as do I in my X1. I’m wondering if it’s beneficial to use a combination of Leedh and a good preamp’s volume control, or just using solely one or the other. Peter, do many use the combination?

Normally I suggest using either one but not both. Occasionally I come across users doing this. If the use of the preamp volume control is preferred, in some cases lowering the Lumin volume by a little amount may help with getting the preamp to work in its best volume control range, or help with a too much gain issue.

With some particular DAC, lowering the volume by 3dB (i.e. Lumin volume 94) may help with the harshness with some particular recordings due to a DAC issue known as intersample overs (clipping).

Great review, Peter! Congratulations. Now why did I buy that fancy MasterSound tube preamp when I can just use my X1 with Leedh processing direct into my power amp and achieve stellar results?

I sure wish there was an option to upgrade my X1 to provide the same connectivity features as the P1. Any chance of that happening, Peter?

You'll need to keep the tube pre if tube sound signature is what you desire.

The various inputs require a new hardware design, so it's impossible to provide that as an add-on I'm afraid.

I'm supposed to be getting the P1 in for review at TAS some time here in the near future.

We really like the P1. I’ll report more later. But it’s a “win” in my books. I hope the Lumin app gets a refresh soon.
