My clients Lumin M1 is arriving to us this week. I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on this piece and hearing it for myself. At $2k for an integrated with a built in Lumin streamer, it's very competitive. When you throw in just how polished a performer the Lumin app is, this is really a great price.

I'm really looking forward to your opinion of this one Mike.

From my experience with the A1, these guys really know how to make a quality product from every perspective of the user experience -- that includes build, aesthetics, sound, app, software upgrades and reliability.

A $2K streamer/integrated that is up their usual standards should be a great product.

Since M1 is not using WM8741 (as in A1 / T1 / D1), it's going to have a different kind of sound.

I'm looking forward to Mike's opinion too.

Class-D amplifier from Texas Instruments, as mentioned in this review of M1:

I can't say I understand the google translation of the evaluation of the sound quality though. :sigh:

What I got from their Facebook area

"There is no DAC Chip in a traditional sense inside LUMIN M1 as it uses a Texas Instruments Digital Power Amplifier Chip to directly drive the speaker outputs.
This is why there are no analogue line outputs or headphone output.
It is therefore quite a different design to either our Wolfson-based LUMIN A1, or ESS Sabre-based LUMIN S1. "

Just noticed on the LUMIN website that this has been archived/discontinued. I had sometimes considered getting one of these for one of my kid’s systems.
Wonder what, if anything, will replace it? I’ve always thought that an all in one like this but using the LUMIN class AB amp would be a nice piece.

Just digessing a bit here, but Lumin's AMP looks very impressive; I've thought about getting one, actually. Excellent and very well thought-through design with a very high level of execution.

Fully dual-mono and fully DC-coupled...👍

I've heard the Lumin AMP and it's an exceptional performer. It runs pretty hot apparently due to a high level of Class A bias. Very clean and transparent sound with a natural tonality and no typical solid state signature. Not inexpensive but it's the kind of component that once you experience can be difficult to move past... you have been warned. ;)

Now you're really tempting me! From my experience with the P1, I'm very impressed with how well Lumin thinks things through.
From the core design parameters, the technologies and engineering approaches embodied to provide the various functionalities, e.g. utilization of optical interfaces, dual-mono circuit topologies, sophisticated and dual-mono power supplies and transformers (e.g. Plitron transformer for the shielded power supplies and Lundahl transformers for the digital section), cutting-edge methodologies e.g. LEEDH volume control, and subseequently, how well they execute on the design parameters and engineering specifications.

An example that most folks might not consider is the front panel and chassis. This panel is solid and machined from billet, and provides damping from vibration imparted to the chassis. The top/side cover are well-damped as well, and I'll add that with respect to damping against vibration, having the right amount of damping is important, there's a "sweet spot" so that the component is not impacted by vibration, but is not overly-damped so that it sounds "dead". Same applies to the footer design used. I tried placing my P1 on the HRS Nimbus couplers and spacers and, it sounds better on the Lumin footers.

Thomas of Thomas & Stereo did a nice review of the Lumin AMP...
