Lumin L2 Music Library and Network Switch

I will gladly buy one piece of L2, at a good price of course :-)

Yes!

Been waitin' for this bad boy...

Heard it at Source Systems' room at AXPONA and it was very impressive.

And...it has a ground terminal on it for connection to Altaira! 👍

Okay, so I went and did screen grabs of the Lumin L2 photos* for y'all to see pics. Resized these in PS for easy viewing here.
Three-quarter front view

Front view "1-point" photo as we say in RE photography...

Nice high-perspective three-quarter view. The case is all machined from solid billet aluminum; looks lovely and keep out RF and EMI...

Back panel view. I've highlighted in red the chassis ground terminal, which would allow for optimal connection to an Altaira ground-plane noise reduction hub, and we already know what that does for a component...:D

Looks really nice and I'm sure will be a very nice addition for folks, and especially so for X1, P1, and T3 owners, as the L2 can connect directly to these via fiber. :woot:

*-whomever did the product shots is also really good, not even a hint of color contamination for any channel in the photos.

What can I say... Lightroom has sliders for that kind of thing :)
The rear isn't a photo though - the production sample for photography will be along soon - allowing photos of the inside too.

Yes, it does...but you'd be surprised at the companies that do not fix this kind of thing...to wit: magenta color contamination on "professional" product advertising shots from another high-end company. (apologies for the temporary "change of subject")

Eek!

Can one use larger drives than 4 TB? Is that a system limitation or is 4 TB just the largest being offered?

What is the value of having an internal switch? Wouldn't the best performance be achieved by limiting the network traffic that the unit sees?

The L2 can be purchased without drives, with a 4TB drive, or with an 8TB drive. I'm not sure of the maximum size, but for 8TB it uses NTFS which has varying maximum capacities depending on what configurations are supported. My first guess would be that at least 16TB is supported. A 16TB SSD is a bit expensive right now.

If you have other products in your audio system that can use a network connection, then the L2 offers the option of providing a low-noise network jack for that other component. For example a Lumin streamer. And the L2 needs a network connection to begin with, in order to act as a music server. So you're basically saying one connection to your wider network, plus a dedicated connection to your streamer. (Assuming the L2 and streamer would be on a switch and not a hub to begin with, they should already only receiving packets addressed to them or sent as broadcast or multicast. So it's not so much the network traffic as much as it is the isolation and possible side-channel noise filtering.)

Actually, the options are:

1 - No drives
2 - 2 x 2TB drives (4 TB total)
3 - 2 x 4TB drives (8 TB total)

I am curious if the 4 TB drives or 8 TB total are system limits or just what is being offered.

Is that with the 8TB of storage? Wonder how it's priced without drives as well.

No mention of that on my call. I figured empty. I called MIKE but it was after hours. So I called another dealer that's in my time zone. They had no sku for it, they had not heard of the unit. This is a huge dealer, you would know them. I would buy the L2 but no way at that price. I would buy the T3 but no optical. I guess I might probably buy the U2 Mini and get my cork-sniffer DAC. :hey:

Certainly would appreciate a downloadable manual. Not only for this but the other new boxes; U2, T3. Can someone please point me to a download link. Not interested in playing footsie with the GUI/online manual and I couldn't locate a link anywhere. /thanks

Hello
How does the file management work : simple external hard drive or like a NAS ?
Strangely , the PSU inside is not a linear one
Has Lumin planned to build one with the external PSU ?
Cheers
