We have released LUMIN Firmware 12 to add the multi-room feature, which allows loosely synchronized playback of music among several LUMIN or Songcast-compatible players (e.g. Linn).

- Any LUMIN model can be a 'Receiver'
- LUMIN X1 / T2 / D2 / U1 / U1 MINI / M1 can all be 'Senders' (the reason other models cannot be a sender was that they do not possess enough processing power)

An interesting technical aspect of our implementation is that a LUMIN sender model can perform MQA Core decoding ("first unfold") or DSD to PCM transcoding before sending to Linn players via Songcast protocol. This is noteworthy because Linn does not support MQA, and old Linn players did not support DSD.

Release notes and usage instructions on our web page should be up shortly.

A convenience switching feature is also added to LUMIN M1 for the RCA input. You may now use the LUMIN iOS app or Linn Kazoo app to switch its input to RCA. It could also be done by standby / wakeup or re-plugging in the RCA input module.

This marks 7 years of firmware upgrade since the original LUMIN (December 2012).

What does this mean? I have an X1 in my stereo, and an S1 in my HT/spare stereo. Does this mean a song playing on the X1 will also play on the S1? If so then I guess that means both units have to be on the network. I use my Ethernet connection on the X1 to attach my hard drive with all the music.

When the app said Firmware 12 was available but there were no release notes on your web page, I came here. Very cool you posted what this release was about! Thanks for being so involved with the community on all the different forums. Here’s to another 7 years, and more.

Yes, you can send music from X1 to S1 on the same network for simultaneous playback, if both units have the Multi-Room feature turned on.

Lumin t2 has more power than s1?
Lumin u1 mini has more power than s1?
Do you still sell s1?
What is the difference in price between t2 and s1? Between u1 mini and s1?
Is the sentence «*I don’t want to be a s1 owner for all the whisky in Ireland*» true enough to make it like an advertisement banner?

S1 was an earlier product.
Thanks Peter for this briliant answer. But S1 still being sold at 11.5k€ (I thought I would buy it at one point of time). Maybe you will feel honest saying to future customers that this device has less powerful processing abilities than U1Mini sold at 2k€

Can you please answer my question about DNS? It is a critical/urgent one

I have no problem saying that. Beginning from U1 I already told members here that U1 has a more powerful processor, enabling DSD128 upsampling which previous models could not. Function or processing power do not imply SQ - audiophiles intimately know this, otherwise everybody can just buy the most powerful general purpose PC and use a USB DAC and be done with it.

I'll see what our decision makers think about configurable DNS, but generally we try our best to avoid putting in technical options.

Thank you. I am still not convinced but hopefully I am not concerned by S1

DNS is critical. I can’t read Tidal on my Lumin for now. Because my internet provider does not allow DNS configuration. I don’t plan to change Internet provider. So this issue is urgent because I managed to configure the right DNS in ALL my devices except Lumin

Also my suggestions on the dedicated post I made weeks earlier are still unanswered. This is a kind of disappointing. I would like you Peter to discuss my suggestions with decision makers and give me a feedback please

Thanks

Buy your own router instead of using the one provided by your provider and program the DNS yourself. That is what every Xfinity customer in the US has to do when they run into your issues. Much more reasonable than expecting Peter and his people to solve your ISP problems.

Thanks Jack you’re brilliant too.
Iphone Android Marantz and many other devices allow to change DNS
These devices are cheaper than Lumin
When I buy Lumin I expect excellence nothing less
I believe I am more demanding than you
Best

Sure, easier to keep whining than find a solution on your own to a problem that has nothing to do with Lumin. Nothing has changed since you joined this forum. Constant whining and complaining.

I am expecting more than your answer Jack. I am expecting an answer from Lumin
When you stop complaining you stop improving
DNS configuration directly available on a 2k€ or 10k€ device is more logical than me wasting my time buying and installing a 200€ device on my own
Especially when this is key issue to stream music in some countries

Well since the compatibility issues between Tidal and certain ISP's is not the problem for Lumin or any other streamer company to solve you may be waiting for quite a while. Replacing the ISP's provided router with one of our own is what I and many others have had to do if we wanted Tidal to work and never even considered that it was the streamer manufacturers problem. As the result I got faster speeds and better coverage as a bonus from a higher quality device. If you are paying a monthly lease fee to your ISP for your router/gateway chances are very good that you can buy the exact same model if you choose from Amazon that won't have the DNS settings hard coded in and without the lease fee it will pay for itself in a short period of time. So your choices at this point are pretty simple.

whats your problem man??
do you think I need your advice ?
you are happy with your device and you are happy with your settings ? Great. Create a thread. Say you are happy!
but let me speak freely and let me complain if I want to complain
Again DNS configuration is available in iPhone iPad android and marrantz and others. For me it is not normal that a device like Lumin don’t allow it
and I ask Lumin for an answer and Peter says he will discuss it with his seniors
so now there is no need for a discussion between you and me Jack. You understand ?
come on !!

edit : for Lumin admins, sorry that this discussion takes place in this thread which is dedicated to Multi room. There is a thread for DNS I created. So Peter, we can develop this discussion in this thread if needed

IMHO there is merit to keeping things - including and maybe especially software - as simple as possible. It simplifies testing (including new releases), improves reliability, helps contain costs, and, in the long run, promotes greater user satisfaction. This is the well known KISS principle. Desirable features in wide use are one thing, but bells and whistles to satisfy outlier 'requirements' should be avoided, especially when alternative solutions make more sense.

Sorry it does not make more sense to buy a new router especially when you spend a lot of money for a product like Lumin - I am of course aware of this alternative
Maybe let Lumin software designers speak
I am not expert. I need explanation. And the question is quite simple.
Why DNS configuration is implemented in every device I use including phones, pc, network usb DAC and even TV and not available yet in a device as advanced and configurable as a Lumin ? I don’t think it is so hard to implement
And DNS is not the last thing I complain about - I have a list of suggestions in a dedicated thread : hardware remote control, airplay display of song information, lock screen notification and app appearance improvements

Why dont you just go out and find a product that can do what you want it to do...skbe !
