Lumin App (iOS) frequently hangs; requires kill and restart

If the Teac app is working just use it and maybe the next Lumin app update will clear up the problem. Other than that try deleting the Lumin app from the iPod and Cloud again and then turn the iPod off for a while and then try a clean install and see if that helps. Also might try PM'ing Peter and get his advice directly.

I 2nd this: The Teac app does behave fine, but the lumin app still makes trouble. How can I contact Peter? What is his account name?

Hello,

I have the feeling that lumin developers are sometimes reading in this forum? So I have the hope that my issue report does find the right way...

I am using the Lumin app on iOS (iPad mini 2) to control a Bubble UPnP Server. With this I can stream qobuz to an otherwise openhome not supporting streamer. But I have read in the minimserver forum that users with lumin hardware do have this issue as well IIRC.

The issue is:
After starting the lumin app everything is working fine. But after a while of not using the iPad nor the app, if I return to the app, it does not respond to user input anymore. The only way to make it work again is to kill the app and restart it. The problem does not occur everytime, but very often (nearly everytim).

Is this an already known issue? Is there something that I could try to fix it? Do you need more information about it?

Thanks
Gert

Hi Gert, did you find a reliable solution to your problem?

Hi Gert, did you find a reliable solution to your problem?

No, unfortunately not. I have to restart the lumin app several times each hour, depending on how often I give it some idle time.

Are you using iOS 13.2.0 - 13.2.2? Apple fixed an issue with background apps in 13.2.3. Of course there appear to be other iOS 13.2.3 issues but I wonder if that might be the problem for you.

I always am using the latest iOS/iPadOS version. Currently 13.2.3. Since the issue occurs from about the beginning of this year it will not have to do with the iOS bug I think.

Yes, this anomaly related to Bubbleupnp server openhome enabled renderers is related to an update early this year on the Lumin app. The Teac HR Streamer app and the Esoteric app which are quite the same apps than Lumin worked well for months. But 2 weeks ago, I think developpers applied the same update to these apps than the one they applied to Lumin early this year (I think it was the update correcting Qobuz behaviour when surfing on favorite albums). Result: these apps freeze too now after a while of not use.

Hi folks,

Just joined the forum looking for information on this topic. I have a D1 and the LUMIN app disconnects on both my iPhone X and iPad 6 every couple of minutes of use. After disconnecting, the app is maintained as a background app, but it appears to relaunch/restart when selected and takes a minute to display the UI screens. Whether I let it sit, or am selecting tracks I get the same results.

I am on the latest LUMIN firmware and app releases as well as the current iOS releases. The iPad was a new LUMIN install, and I’ve cycled my network components. What analysis I can do via the router indicates that my network (Charter) seems solid (no sudden drop outs).

I believe the problem is in communication from the D1 since I do not have this problem when steaming music at my local HiFi store. There I connected to several different LUMIN streamers from my iPhone without issue although they were not D1s.

Any thoughts or or suggestions are appreciated

Rob

System overview:
Krell 25-SC PreAmp, NAD M17 AV, Krell 250 FPB Amps,
Dynaudio Speakers (Temptations- stereo, Confidence- center, 1.4s- surrounds), REL -subs
rega RP3 turntable, T+A DAC-8, LUMIN D1, Transparent cables

I tested for 3 or 4 sessions now. No problem so far. I let my iPhone sleep for a while, I take it back. Lumin takes 4-5 secs to recognize the song being played and playlist order is updated and the right cover art shows up. Very satisfying

Anyway even lumin is behaving well with my ND8006 I will buy the lumin mini

I will keep you posted in few days

What you say is correct and important. When we open the ipad again we have to wait a few seconds, because if not (not always) but sometimes the application hangs.

Please try Linn Kazoo app and see how it behaves.

Describe your network topology and state the brand and model of your all network WiFi router, access points, switches, and powerline adapters.

Please test for a few days more (since we do not use Bubble) and let me know. Thanks.

Peter, after some days of testing. iOS 12 and 13 (2 devices), Bubbleupnp server, openhome renderers Marantz ND8006 and Sonos Connect.

Still a little bit buggy. Sometimes tha app wakes up nicely after a while of not use and shows correctly playlist updated. Sometimes, the app is empty, nothing is shown. So need to kill the app and restart it to have the info shown.
But it is better than before for sure. I mean before the latest update, the app always goes into a deep sleep and does not remember the playlist. Now, this happens only sometimes.

And I really appreciate the last modification you made : now the app remembers when I sort Tidal favorite albums and playlist by name or by date. Bravo.

Please keep improving. Lumin is really the real deal.
