Roon app improves dramatically the music experience. One has to try it to understand. I just bought a lifetime membership and I’m very happy about it.

But one thing is still surprising me.
On iOS, how come Lumin is very often still working properly on background while Roon goes to sleep just after few minutes in the background. I mean if (i) I let Lumin app on its own and navigate into other apps for 5-10-20mn and I come back to Lumin, the app is still active and playing now is updated very rapidly and if (ii) I do the same with Roon, I have quite always the playing now (or the last displayed screen) disappear for a few seconds (approx. 1 or 2 seconds - of course, for many, this is not a problem as it works properly but yet, this is bothering me, I would have preferred no lag at all) showing a black screen with Roon logo “struggling”/moving in order to refresh the page?

What is it that you like about the Roon app over the LUMIN iOS? I have a D2 and tried the Roon app for a little while, but didn't find any advantage to it. I actually liked the LUMIN iOS app better and switched back to it after a couple of days. I only stream from Qobuz and I do not have any of my own music stored anywhere to listen to. So maybe that is why I don't see an advantage to Roon?

Well this is not a topic for Roon advantages. I also tried Roon a couple of times (maybe too quickly) and I abandoned for a while. But the last time I tried, I used it more deeply.
But to give you a quick answer: yes true having music on NAS and having also a Tidal account is more enjoyable when using Roon in my point of view. But there are many other advantages:
-Roon is also for audiophiles who want to see album credits very easily (and album booklet for Qobuz users)
-Roon has a very easy navigation that makes you go from the track to the album to the artist and to related artists in 1 or 2 clicks
-Roon makes it possible to listen to music on Lumin and in the meantime displaying what is playing on chromecast (this is very nice to listen to music and to have the album / artist displayed on TV)
-You can bookmark views in order to go back to them very quickly (bookmark Qobuz new Jazz releases, bookmark Tidal playlists, bookmark Jazz radios etc etc)
-Very important: you can configure a Logitech harmony remote control in order to use Roon: I play/pause/prev. next track/volume up down/play favorited playlists without opening the app and just by hitting a button on Logitech harmony remote control
-I use Roon not only for my Lumin but also for all my music endpoints (Sonos, Marantz, on the iPad/iPhone itselves, in my FIIO m15 when I am in another room than my hifi stuff)
This software is very very advanced

I actually wondered about the Roon App falling asleep after a few minutes. Nothing major but I would also like to find out if it is something that can be controlled by the user.

Great points about Roon’s versatility. In my opinion, Roon’s database management capabilities are unmatched by other apps. One feature that I like about bookmarks is that they are automatically updated in real time. If at any time you add an album to your library, it automatically is added to any bookmarked group if it meets the criteria.

I was not aware of being able to use the Logitech remote to control Roon. Will have to try that out.

The Lumin app is very good and I think of it as "Roon Lite" With Roon I enjoy the ability to navigate to new music easily off Radio, Qobuz or attached SSD selections. I greatly like being able to read album liner notes, see artwork and even lyrics. Finally, the feature I like most is upsampling to DSD512, which my Lumin T2 will play back. The upsampling seems to increase soundstage spaciousness and brings out more detail.

It is a program called Deep Harmony available in Github - I installed it using Container Station in my QNAP NAS - and that will work as an extension to Roon. Installation is not easy for a non IT addict like me. But the achievement justifies the means

Hi Peter
Do you think there is some disadvantage doing this? Does this affect SQ in your opinion?
I know I am asking a question about Roon in this forum but I would like to have an objective answer from you. Thanks again for your help

Can anyone share if Lumin works on other devices. I currently own the D-2 and would like to use the Lumin app in an office. I think purchasing another D-2 is overkill. I thought I might try a setup that runs on Volumio. Just curious If anyone knows If I will be able to play Tidal on both devices? I looked at Roon, just not interested in paying for another service just yet.

I have joined the trial period of Roon and tested to play music compare the SQ in between Roon and Lumin. Somehow I find Lumin played louder but the music produce sort of muddy from Roon. Not sure if it is due to the hardware setup of my Roon Core, as my Roon Core is running on my Mac desktop which only thru ethernet but not direct connection. I see very less advantage on using Roon from my setup at the moment.

I am happy to hear if other user also feel the same.

I use the LUMIN app for critical listening as I think MinimServer using uPnP sounds slightly better than Roon’s RAAT.

However, Roon radio is amazing and for that alone I use Roon for casual listening.

I built my Roon server on a NUC using Windows IoT, all SSDs and a fan-less case. This allows me to run the Roon Core as well as MinimServer. This gives me the best of both from a high performance dedicated music server.
