My son in law near NYC was given a McIntosh 4100 last week that has certainly been used very little or not at all for several years. He reports very little gain and overall volume with his turntable. Hooking up a phono preamp improves volume but not performing where he thinks it should be. I told him to check with a CD player or switch to the tuner to see if there is a problem with the power amp section. Just doesn’t seem to have volume. I am going back in three weeks are there any typical issues I should check? Is a recap suggested? Thanks.
