A post on social media that came up on my news feed yesterday. You can probably find it; I will also try to track down the origin. It looks like an excerpt from a newspaper or similar publication.Rbbert, I’d like to get a copy of the entirety of this document, if possible. May I ask where you got it from, please? Thank you.
By national standards, Altadena is affluent. A 1,200 SF, 50-yr old starter home is $1 mil. Many are 2+ mil. La Canada next door and Pasadena to the So. have many homes valued in the mult of millions. Its another reason insurance co. started to pull out of CA, the inflated home values didn't pencil any longer, never mind the fire risk.I am afraid (concerned?) that many ordinary folks affected by the Eaton (Altadena) fire will end up getting shafted by the insurance companies simply because they don't know how to navigate through the bureaucratic red tape. I do have sympathy for the better-off people who lost homes in the Palisades (or possibly even Brentwood in the near future), but the vast majority of them are both well-off financially and have the resources and knowledge to get what they need from the insurance companies. Well, get everything except their community back.
A large percentage of homes in the Altadena area have been in the same families for several generations; in the 1950's - 1960's (when these homes were purchased) they were considered affordable by even the lower middle-class, and that description still applies to many who live there, even if not to the real estate.By national standards, Altadena is affluent. I wouldn’t worry too much it’s all planned ..
Rbbert, I found the link you referenced above and saved it to the appropriate place for future reference. Many thanks again. Cheers.A post on social media that came up on my news feed yesterday. This has been clearly refuted as misinformation, there is no upside to continue spreading it. I know that even the WSJ isn't far-right enough for some of you to believe.Interesting. They also turned off the water off in Hawaii.
Another interesting point is that CA fires over the past years and now this year release way more Co2 than all the cars in the state emit and they are more worried about doing Emission Testing on the 60 Fire Trucks from Oregon than they are concerned about putting out the fires. SMH
I don't follow or pay attention to any Main Stream Media News Sources anymore. This has been clearly refuted as misinformation, there is no upside to continue spreading it. I know that even the WSJ isn't far-right enough for some of you to believe.

The SoCal wildfires are heartbreaking and I can speak somewhat first-hand to that: my sister and family lost their home and everything they owned in the Camp Fire in Paradise, CA in 2018. I remember scrambling like crazy to try to find a motel where my sister and her family could stay while they were frantically driving out of Paradise with the entire town and forest around them...on fire, and their home was literally burning to the ground. So depressing that this has turned into a political discussion with the usual heaping of beliefs rather than facts. I shouldn't be surprised.

Here are some facts:
The devastation we're witnessing in SoCal, as well as what we witnessed in Maui in 2023 and Paradise, CA in 2018 is directly the result of of climate change, or more accurately stated from a meteorological perspective, global warming.
I'll add that the devastating hurricanes and horrendous losses in 2024 from Beryl, Helene, and Milton in the Caribbean and Southeast are also the direct result of global warming.
Lastly, and just as tragically, something you guys may not know about, is that a critical ocean current known as the AMOC (Atlantic Meriodonal Overturning Circulation) started breaking down in 2024 as well, also due to global warming/climate change. This will very likely also have catastrophic long-term consequences for life as we know it on this planet.

The bottom-line here, from a the perspective of the Thermodynamics and Physics that directly influence and impact the climate of a planet, is that all this due to Global Warming.
What's even more heartbreaking is that Prof. Carl Sagan of Cornell very clearly and specifically warned us 40 years ago of the risk and existential threat that Global Warming posed to life as we know it on this planet in his testimony to the US Congress in 1985.
Prof. Sagan's 1985 Congressional testimony YT video link here:
And since that testimony by Prof. Sagan 40 years ago, we have taken virtually NO ACTION, zip, nada, niente, of any practical significance* to prevent it, either at that time, or since.
What's particularly distressing to me personally, in looking at all this scientific data from the perspective of someone who worked as a PhD-level professional scientist in a career of over 40 years is...we haven't seen ANYTHING yet.
*-Practical Significance: what matters in the REAL WORLD, where we all live. At least for now...
