I am a bit surprised there has not been a thread started here yet. I did read that at least one small record company had everything physical destroyed and all that is left of their original recordings is digital music stored elsewhere. I don't know any members here who have been directly impacted by this disaster but my heart goes out to them. I suspect that nearly all of us have been at least indirectly affected (extended family, close friends, etc.). My youngest brother's (and his wife's) home for the last 35+ years is a total loss, including a recently completed ADU, although their fireplace/chimney and (inexplicably) outdoor patio furniture survived.

they cut the fire departments budget by like $18 million, the hydrants ran dry and had issues with pressure, they adjusted water flow for fish, etc etc

sorry, but the state of cali should have invested big time on wild fire issues, they are known for this and instead they went the other direction. Florida is know for hurricanes, they are big on fighting that issue
 
It’s not about blame. Mother Nature / the Santa Ana winds is the root cause here. Humanity create sparks. The two combined in dry Cali caused the fire.

The focus should be on stopping it and helping those impacted who need it most.

That’s what the leadership and the people of Cali and beyond should be doing.

As Craig has said, get it stopped and help those in need. Then hopefully better planning, development will prevail.

Thoughts and prayers for all those poor souls.......
 
The ice melt and rain water should not have been diverted to the ocean. Over 100 Firefighters should not have been terminated because they refused the vax. There should have been better Forestry Management for years and they were warned repeatedly of this situation. They have several people on film starting fires. And the big question is, why were Fire Insurance Policies recently terminated? This all could have been prevented.
 
As should be obvious from the above posts, the State of California had little to do with most of these issues. DOT is the US government, and most (not all) of the water, power and firefighting issues were and are the responsibility of local governments, not the state. Still, the degree of insensitivity at this forum is astonishing to me.

Forestry management had ZERO influence on these fires, which are in urban areas. The state did not terminate fire insurance policies; many residents did due to cost and perceived unlikelihood of the urban area burning to this degree.

Oddball question for you. How are there still trees standing right next to complete devastation? Similar to Maui
 
Because that is the way fires work. In Pacific Palisades not only are some trees still standing there are also homes that appear untouched amid otherwise total devastation. There is a video on the LA Times website (I assume paywall free since I could view it) from an aerial flyby just south of the PCH that goes from Malibu to the Santa Monica pier, and one can see the randomness of the destruction (and what appears undamaged)
 
So depressing that this has turned into a political discussion with the usual heaping of beliefs rather than facts. I shouldn't be surprised.

Actually I think there are legitimate concerns, that are open for discussion. Where have I pointed the finger here at any one 'Political Party' ?

In so far as 'beliefs vs facts', please correct me if I'm wrong............ was not the LAFD budget cut by 17 million $$ ? were not fire hydrants found to be not working or at too low a pressure ? While this was not the 'cause', if true it was part of the 'effect'

nothing political about it, what I stated is facts and newsome/bass are in charge of the city and have made very bad decisions, its on the ocean for crying out loud and they drain the water into the ocean for smelts/salmon/etc and the hydrants do not work, give me a break. things will never get better if you dont make people rponisble for there failures

Nobody brought Politics up until your post.

Going back to the Trees, in Maui, the fires were hot enough to melt Engine Blocks into puddles while leaving grass and trees intact just feet away. That is not how normal fires work.
