Hi All, I'm looking to upgrade my current system.
This is for a home set-up in a fairly small room and I can't play it loud because of neighbors so volume is not an issue. I'm always looking for that cool experience of listening to a record I've heard many times and then hearing something new -- another layer of harmonies, guitar, a subtle cymbal, etc. At home I listen to a range of rock, Americana, soul, and singer-songwriter, e.g. Stevie Nicks, Zep, REM, Besnard Lakes, Aretha, Barr Brothers, First Aid Kit, Jake Bugg, Leon Bridges, Gary Clark Jr.
Current system and what I'm considering:
JBL Studio 230 speakers -- I'm happy with these
UTurn Orbit Custom turntable -- I'm looking to upgrade. Thinking of a Rega Planar 1 or maybe 2. I have a VinylPlay (which I believe is made by Rega) in my office and it's a lot more substantial than my Uturn (though I think the UTurn was a terrific upgrade from what I had previously), but it's a bit beat up (was a floor model) so I don't want to bring it home). I'm open to something other than a Rega, but leaning toward that because the office TT is so good.
Onkyo A-9010 Integrated Amplifier -- I'm looking to upgrade. This was a strongly-recommended amplifier, but recently a sound guy pointed out it's still digital and I'd get more from an analog option. I only use this for the turntable -- no other components or radio, etc. This is the area I know the least about (amps).
I care somewhat about visual aesthetics as well. I'm open to something classic or contemporary, I just want it to look good. I'm also open to vintage if it's easy to get and reliable.
So, sound is the top priority, followed by look... volume and range of features less important.
I'd like to spend less than $700, though could spend a little more.
(sorry for the bold, I can't get it to un-do).
Advice?
Thanks.
