Look out R2R the Ayre QX-5 is coming to town!

The QX-5 is now really coming to town, well two towns anyway.

The North American debut of the QX-5 will be at Audio Consultants (I work there) in Evanston Illinois ( Chicago area ) on Saturday June 18 from 11 to 5. Alex Brinkman of Ayre will be there to demonstrate the unit and answer questions.

Hi Scott,

Welcome to the forum! Thank you for joining. Please keep us updated on how the demo goes. I do love my Ayre combo and could see this as a matching dac for a three piece set :D

The fact that DSD is not mentioned is not the same as saying that there is no DSD support. In fact, just as with the Codex and QB9, DSD is supported. Ayre will only add MQA if they deem it a meaningfully successful format. At this point it is much more promise than delivery.

Glad to hear that.

Charles Hansen is a proponent of DSD, and at least at present a vocal skeptic of MQA

Charlie is absolutely not a DSD fan, quite the contrary. He believes that PCM, when handled properly, is superior to DSD.

Guys...here's my view...Offer a dac capable of supporting different formats...PCM, DSD... It's after all a $9K component. If you prefer PCM than you're free to play it. But if you prefer to listen to DSD then a product in the category ought to support it.
It's a bit like building and selling a DVD player that does not play Blu Ray or give access to video streaming. = limited

Im looking forward to hearing it. Ayre typically does very well with playing music.

I doubt if this one will be any different.

The actual specs ---- we will see, but who cares since it's my ears that count.

The QX-5, like all current Ayre digital products, will support DSD.
