Would love to hear it. Unfortunately Ayre is poorly represented in Australia. It's a shame they didn't choose a worthy dealer here.

By the time RMAF rolls around everybody and their dog will have the new chips in their DAC. However, it sounds like Ayre has a winner on their hands so far.

Oh I'm sure, but I need to get another Lampizator first. I don't think there is anything else that can touch it. :(

You could always use the Ayre in combination with a tube preamp. Might be the best of both words this way.:)
 
That's true, I guess, but I was sort of trying to get away from tubes. Sadly I find that I can't live without what they do for a system.

We shall see, we shall see. R2R was considered obsolete when MSB started using it a zillion years ago. To many people, Dac chips have never reached there smoothness or musicality. I know you are as hot as an objectivist on WBF about these new 90138's but I remember similar R2R killers in the past that didn't pan out. I know, I know, this time its different. Like I said, we shall see.

Keep in mind that the predecessor to the 9038 pro, the 9018S (Which is still today's most popular and successful SDM DAC chip) was developed close to 10 years ago back when the ESS Sabre division was tiny (around 10 employees) and had limited resources. The 9038 Pro is the result of 10 years of hard work since, from a division that has grown to over 100 employees, and has become by far the worlds most successful DAC chip company. Not to mention they acquired the Wolfson CTO along with all of Wolfson's IP last year as well :)

I hope they will show that baby in Munich, would love to get a first impression.

The only weakness is the off-the-shelve DAC chip, but that's only when compared with the best of the best.

I wouldn't call it a weakness until you hear it :) Nobody forced Ayre to use it.
