This summer when attending live concerts I find myself wondering what exactly the engineers at the mixing board actually have me listening to. Does the sound they collect from microphones, amplifiers, etc. go through analogue-to-digital conversion, get mixed, then go thorough digital-to-analogue conversion before arriving at my ears? Or am I having a fully analogue experience when I listen in a live music venue? Is a live music experience sometimes a digital experience?
It also occurs to me that a mega-production (say, Pearl Jam) may be different from a smaller scale production (say, Bob Dylan).
I apologize if this question seems silly to any audio pros in the community.
