Listening to records I've cleaned through headphones and I'm chaffed!

Wow! I'm sitting here late night listening to records on my vintage system (TT = Pioneer PL-510A w/ AT95E cart) with headphones and I am just chaffed! Listening to a Mamas and Papas record I picked up for $2 and it's near CD quiet! Headphones reveal a lot so I'm chaffed about this! This is what a VPI 16.5 and good fluids and methods can do. Any RCM can do this with good fluids and proper methods applied, so clean on guys and gals, clean on!
I rarely use headphones as they bother me after a short time, but it's a great tool to see just how clean a record is. In my case, about two or three tracks anyway. I'm not even using my good cans either! I'm messing about with my Monoprice cans right now. Perhaps tomorrow I'll pull out my good Sennhiesers.
Woohoo!

Imagine what they would sound like if you used one of those $$$$ ultrasonic RCM's...

Sorry I couldn't resist! :P

No different as far as I know because I have not had the opportunity to try one out and never will as far as I can see. I'd love to test one out and see.

Perhaps I have never learned how to get the best cleaning performance from my VPI 16.5, but I do know my uber expensive ultra sonic machine is fantastic, and worth every penny to me. Not having to tend a noisy machine, but instead drop in a LP, close the door, and go back into the listening room to enjoy glorious music is bliss. Additionally, no static charge means they stay clean as well.

I buy a lot of used records online, mostly from one place, and the sound quality is fantastic. I asked them what kind of RCM they used and it's the Klaudio ultrasonic cleaner. If I could drop that kind money on a RCM that's definitely what I would get.

As with everything...you do get what you pay for...lol...with that said though, I get great results from my self-built machine. Clean and as far as static, I hit it with a zero stat and viola...perfect and they stay clean for some time...

I too would love an ultrasonic cleaner but in terms of budget...not even close...

Same here, Ultrasonic RCM would be nice if just for the lack of noise advantage, but so far out of budget for me that I can't even see a blip on radar. As for static with my method and VPI 16.5, I have almost no issues there. It's all in how one uses the vacuum portion. I have a Zerostat, but it only gets used on occasion as needed which is rather sparse. I have not had to use it on the last 16 records I've played. I find I use it only if the whether is very dry and the air is charged such as when running a heater. For instance, if I let the vacuum go around the record more than twice, I would venture to guess that I would have static issues much more often. As to staying clean, no problem, just use good poly lined inner sleeves and a poly outer sleeve on the jacket and the records come out bambock fresh every time for a long while. Just a light dust before play and away you go.
