I had Tom over last night for a little get together. Tom brought pizza and I served the refreshments.

We listened to a wide variety of music. Some Eric Steckel,Ed Sheeran,Hugh Masekela,Led Zeppelin, and some of Tom's music that he played using Airplay from his phone, through the Lumin.

I even got him to listen to some vinyl :exciting:

I'm going to let Tom give his thoughts on my system, warts and all. I welcome honest opinions from other people, I always learn from it.

Overall, a really fun night.

Did you guys drink soda pop with your pizza like the LVAC??

Um, how did his telephone sound and don't tell me great because he brought some pizza over! :D

Since you had to listen to his telephone, the least he could is listen to some vinyl!

The Airplay doesn't sound great, but it's a way to hear someone else's music when they visit.

Good Pale Ale and Tequila goes great with pizza !!

Now days with jump sticks and music servers, you could bring plenty of hi-rez files over to someone's house to introduce them to some of your music during a listening session. I'm glad you guys had a good time.

Thanks again for having me over Mark! Had a great time.

Mark has a superb system. I had heard his system once before and I believe it had the same equipment just different speakers. And I don't want to ruffle any feathers, but his raidho D3 setup didn't do it for me. While this same system with the revel salons was fantastic. Tight clean bass with a massive sound. A very smooth presentation that just came alive when Mark cranked things up (which he definitely did). The revels are very hard to nit pick. They seem to do everything right. And suprisingly non fatiguing given the BE tweeter which I had imagined would be a bit on the forward side before hearing his system. But not forward at all. If anything, a tiny bit laid back on the highs, but with no lack of detail. But oh so perfect for the classic and modern rock Mark loves to listen to. I was impressed. As I should be given every piece of his system is true high end. Gotta say though it was the speakers I noticed most. They are gems...and gigantic!!!

Great feedback Tom! Mark does indeed have a great sounding system. I've enjoyed many hours listening to it.

Visiting Mark is always fun and a great experience. A terrific guy and host.

Glad you guys had a good time. And, I agree with you, after all these years the Salon 2s are fantastic and they sound great at Mark's. Heard them with the Classe monos there a while back. I bet they sound terrific with the Hegel.

Thanks guys, it's not perfect, but it does serve me well for my tastes.
Since I'm moving to a new house soon, I won't be making any changes. I need to see how all this works in a totally different room.
Who knows, everything could change.
But I will try hard to incorporate what I have.

Keep the speakers. : )

Actually, this made me more aware that we all build systems to meet our personal taste and listening preferences. I'm someone that owns a lot of acoustic and folk rock music. So I gravitated to these PMC facts because they just work so well with that kind of music, but they aren't going to party as well as Marks system. Just emphasizes for me that at a certain point high end audio is no longer about what's definitively the best system but much more about personal preferences.

I couldn't agree more. The D3's when I owned them were fantastic. But for me, and my tastes in music, and the volumes that I listen at, the Salons work very well.
When any of us build a system, we need to factor all of this into the equation. Only then will we achieve our own personal goals.
And our own personal satisfaction is all that matters.

One of the best things about Shark get togethers is that I always learn about some new music.

I encourage all our members to reach out to fellow Sharks in your area, and have some fun.

It's a lot of fun to share each others thoughts about gear and music.

Wow, I can imagine that was fun!
There is a good chance I'll have to go to Austin for work. In that case I hope you'll be home for a tequila and some music Mark. A detour through Dallas is going to be scheduled!
Can't wait to hear the Salon's.
