List of preamps that work very well with the Nord One SE UP NC500DM Stereo?

Has anyone found that they enjoy music some days more than others?
I could have listened all day to music yesterday when I first tried the Baby Classic, but this morning I could not get into the music.
I listened to the first disc of The Best of Thin Lizzy and was looking forward to the second disc this morning.
Perhaps I listened to music for so many hours yesterday that I need a rest for a day or two?
This is really weird.

Absolutely, I can feel the same way. Some days everything can sound awesome, some days something just isn't quite right. Either my mood is different, or my electricity seems a little off, or I'm just not into it.

Don't worry about it. Enjoy it when you can.

Nice to know it's not just me then.
I could not believe, after enjoying music with the Baby Classic so much yesterday, that I would feel so different today.

There's no way something can be consistently perfect, in my opinion. Natural variability exists in everything and for me, when it's great, I appreciate it so much more. I feel it's never really terrible, just not as good. But, when it's great, OMG! It's the best feeling.

I've noticed that sometimes I gravitate towards music that's a bit more melancholy and I do find it does lift my mood, ironically.

I was speaking to Jonathan Billington yesterday and have now ordered the Classic V2, which is currently being made.
I will be going to his business premises where he will have it setup and connected to his soon to be released new mono amps.
He also told me that I can have a listen to the Baby Reference.
I will be taking my Nord One SE UP NC500DM Stereo to see what he thinks of it.
It will be interesting.

I'm so glad you liked the Baby Classic and decided to upgrade right away! I think it's a perfect match with the Nord, or with any amp actually...

I have to admit I had some email exchange with Jonathan today also... I was perfectly happy with my Baby Classic, but I needed to send it back to him for some adjustments as I did some bad decisions when I first bought it. Well, what can I say... I'm now waiting for a Baby Reference v2.... :)

Very interesting with his monos.... full report wanted!! and don't forget that your Nord needs more burn-in time!!!! and say hi from me... :)

Lovely! And considering how great the Baby Classic with the v2 transformer is I don't see how I could NOT like the Reference, my only concern at this point is that I have difficulties to imagine how it can actually get any better than this.... haha.... but we'll see!

Are you not using the Baby in your current setup btw?

You lucky bugger.

What changes are you making and what made you decide to buy the Baby Reference v2?

I'm looking forward to your thoughts when it arrives and how much of a difference it makes, compared to the Baby Classic v2.

I'll let you know what I think of his monos compared to the Nord.

i may have said this already but jonathan bought the very first music first baby reference to my house to listen some years ago . i have some pics but photobucket won`t let me post them . of course when colleagues left to start bespoke audio which is the same as the baby ref v1 he bought out the better v2 baby ref which i have yet to hear

there is a v2 here at reasonable price if you are interested

I originally went for a minimal approach with only 1 XLR input and 1 XLR output, but my new amp and DAC combo for some reason forces me back into RCA. So my first thought was to send back my Baby and have the RCA's retro-fitted, but then I thought that maybe this would be a good opportunity to take the step towards the Baby Ref instead. There was also another thing, the gain on my new amp is very high, much higher than the Nord which was already high, and it makes the lowest step on the volume control too loud sometimes. Jonathan can adjust the taps for the lower end while winding the transformers.

And why? I have always wanted the Baby Ref v2, but I just couldn't afford it to begin with, and also I maybe wasn't really prepared to spend those kind of money on a device I had never heard. Well, that was until I actually heard the Baby Classic... :) It's still a lot of money though, but Jonathan is great with upgrades, and having already paid some of it makes it easier....

What made you choose the Music First Audio Baby Reference v2?
Did you have a home demo first or did you just buy it?

I intend to do a big system thread to explain my philosophy - burning in a new phono stage right now, but feel the "end" is near.

I wasn't able to demo the MF in my system, but had an Asian Django with S&B tformers for several weeks on loan.

i compared the MFA expensive phono, around 12k GBP, to the Airtight ATE 2005. The ATE was way better. The dimensionality and tone were both more, the MFA on crescendos was jumbling stuff up and sounding hashy. It was flatter than the ATE. I did not hear any low noise advantages either (fyi, I preferred Burmester phono much more to the AR PH7 (though I don’t like Burm pre power|)). The source for ATE MFA compare was a Kuzma Stabi M with the 9inch arm and a 1500 GBP Transfiguration, forget which model.

I don't have their phono preamp if that is what you are insinuating.

btw, did you use a SUT with the MF?

Nope. Yes I know you don't have their phono, I am just saying I compared it recently.
