Linn Klimax DS3 vs Lumin S1

Well, the only way to really answer the subject question is to do a comparison (side by side) in the same system. That would be a fascinating session.

I have owned Linn equipment (LP-12) and currently own the S-1. So, I do like both brands. With that stated, the S-1 offers more format flexibility - I like that!

In terms of absolute sound, the comparo would be the mechanism to determine that.

Hey Mike,

Yeah I agree, at the end of the day, a side-by-side would be not only fun, but very educative.

If anybody in SoCal wants to bring their Lumin here, we can compare to the Linn Klimax. We always have one around...

cheers,
alex

Me too! And I hope to make everyone happier by releasing MQA firmware upgrade for S1 / A1 / T1 / D1.

Peter, you're a big reason us Lumin owners are so happy. I've never experienced anyone with as much dedication and passion to helping us understand this whole digital world that's new to many of us and and advancing Lumin's products. Do you ever sleep? :congrats:

Can you tell us more about the MQA firmware upgrade you teased us with? Will we be able to unfold TIDAL tracks beyond 48kHz/24 bit?

Thx,
Brian ...

Take a look at this page I took during the beta , http://www.audioshark.org/lumin-169/teaser-11388-page9.html

Peter,

Ver 9.01 rocks! I've been listening to fully decoded MQA for the past hour via TIDAL. I assume the 'Studio' indication on the S1 is the final leg of the MQA decoding journey that proves the track is as the studio released the track.

Lumin has the best customer service of any DAC vendor. I wish my other pieces of equipment were as future-proof as the S1.

Brian ...

Well, it came down to Linn vs dCS Rossini for me, though I was not able to audition many others. I'm going with a Rossini, the clock may come later.

Rossini will have MQA support when the latest update is released, which has similar new mapping algorithms as the Vivaldi v2 update.

Bovin,

I just purchased a Black Lion Audio Micro Clock Mk III. It's likely not as god as the Rossini clock but it's also under $1,000. I'll let you know if it improved the SQ.
