Great photos. Owning two pairs of TADs, I enjoyed them very much. Thanks.

If I could only have tamed the tweeters on the CR-1 that I had, they’d still be in my room. I loved the size and form factor but I could never get over the hot (to my ears) tweeter. Almost perfect overall, so close.

Funny how folks perceive things differently. I have never thought these tweeters were “hot” or even close to it. You certainly have a well tuned ear, so I’m likely just dumb and happy! I better be,as I have a pair of R1s In storage waiting for my room to be built (should be complete about May or so of next year).

The form factor of the Cr-1s is one of my favorite aspects of them - way bigger sound than the package would lead one to think.

The CR-1 tweeters always seemed too forward to me. I don’t think my ears are great it’s just that I’m sensitive to too much high frequencies. I guess that’s why I love a sweeter more laid back kind of sound. Live concerts are a painful experience if I don’t have ear plugs, which kind of kills the fun. :)

I’m in agreement with Joe. This is one hot tweeter. I’ve only heard a few that had more bite.

I just heard the new R1-TX last weekend in an audio show. It sounded very good. If there is anything negative to its sound, its the lack of extension in the highs. It is very smooth sounding, lacks edge, but lacks extension. I have not heard the previous version, so I cannot comment on the old vs. new iteration of the Reference One. Maybe it is not broken in yet? Or perhaps the matching of cables and equipment made it sound like that? Will know when the pair is fully broken in already. Cheers!

I was also at the Manilla show on the weekend. I agree with you, quite dark sounding. I put it down to part the room and part the warm sounding Vitus amps.
