MOG will be no more in about two weeks time.:( Trung (HiFive) introduced it to me and both my family and I really love the service: the high quality rips, the large catalog, the seamless integration into Sonos, the ability to hear whole albums or radio stations with like artists, etc. It's just a great service.

I've tried Beats, Spotify, and Pandora. Meh. But TBH, I haven't spent much time with them either.

If you are a MOG fan and need to find a quality streaming service, curious if you found a good alternative. Any recommendations?

cheers

I left MOG the minute I got word that Beats was taking over. I miss MOG myself. I don't like the model of Beats and don't like their curation and lack of support and options that MOG had.
I started looking around for another service and the choices are lackluster, but at least they are better models than Beats. I found that Spotify is the remaining best choice left out there overall at least. I'm not a fan of the search abilities of Spotify, it has trouble finding titles and such, you sometimes have to really dig and think ahead of it. The interface is ok and it has the same sound quality as MOG with subscripttion. I was going to suscribe soon, but I have noticed a significant drop in titles even though Spotify is the only service that has Led Zep, but for me I would not want to sacrafice all else just to have one artist. So I'm still debating a subscription with Spotify, but if I do subscribe to a service again it will most likely be Spotify since that works on my Squeezebox. Xbox music is good in the sound quality department as well, but I think the catalog is more limited than the others. Alsoit's DNLA so won't work with a squeezebox and probably not a Sonos either, but I don't know. However, I need to investigate what I am seeing with Spotify over the past week. It may turn out that the catalogs will be the same.

MOG - I don't think it's avail here in Canada. ...Never was, never will.

Windows XP - April 8, no more support. ...The 8th because it's time to upgrade with Windows 8.

XBOX music - Is it avail to Canadians (igloo people from the North)?

What do we have left? ...Turntables and albums. ... @ home.
On the go? .. .MP3 from our iPods. ;) ... And now, Pono (Neil young's new toy).

* I got FM stereo r.a.d.i.o. on my Moto G. ...Classical, Jazz, Blues, ...

Eric, Spotify is the runner up. I haven't spend enough time to assess its catalog. Guess it's not as deep as MOG's.

Rob, the xbox sounds intriguing, but doubt if I'll get my xbox hooked up to my stereo.

Two words

XBOX Music ...awesome sound quality and largest # of titles. Just try it, its free

Yes, I like X-box Music too for it's sound quality. It didn't have as many titles as Spotify when I looked at it (and nobody had as many as MOG). However, with what I noticed on Spotify lately, I need to revisit the title count on Xbox music.
The only deal breaker for me is that it's not Squeezebox compatible. If my new receiver (whatever it ends up being) supports DLNA (or is it DNLA?) though, it may sync up with that, we will see.
My free period expired for Xbox Music the other day and I can't have two $10 subscriptions. So I'm looking at Spotify for that...maybe. If Spotify has cut it's catalog in half or something, then I will probably just go without any service since I want something that has squeezebox support ultimately.

You don't even need an Xbox. It will run on any PC. It's DLNA, so it won't run in the squeezebox. However, I've been checking it out and the sound quality IS rather good.

Ok, I've been using the Free version of Spotify lately obviously as well as Xbox. I think I may have figured out what is going on by making some inquiries of the interwebs.(I would have talked to Spotify, but not being a subscriber closed that idea fast.

Attention Streaming service shoppers!!
Updated info as of 02/18/14.
It appears from what I can gather reading that more catalog opens up for premium ($10/month) subscribers on Spotify. It's listed that Spotify offers 20+ million tracks while Xbox Music offers 30 million.
As of end of Feb 2014 LastFM partnered up with Spotify giving Spotify Subscribers (not free users) access to an additional 700 million streamable tracks! I do not know what kind of quality the LastFM tracks are in though, but holy cow! Also, Spotify is the only service to offer the Led Zep backlog discography. (Not a big deal really, but it's still one ahead).

So I need to look deeper at Spotify, it may be that the other tracks (albums in my case) I seek could be unlocked with subscription?

Turns out that LASTFM bit rate is a paltry 128kbs. However, for me personally, it’s ok because I use streaming service for research 90% of the time (ie: previewing before buying, discovery, etc.) So sound quality for those purposes doesn’t matter to me all that much. The other 10% of the time I would prefer at least 320kbs though.

Where is hyfry (David Hyman, the creator of MOG)? Would love to hear what he has planned next!

Looks like the official date is now May 30th. :(
