Let's say disaster strikes...

I agree with you guys, but it's not as much a no brainer for me. I've heard some incredible headphone systems and they crush a similarly priced bookshelf rig in terms of absolute sound quality. Spend $2k on a headphone rig and you're near world class. Not even close with a speaker system regardless of how carefully selected the components.

I definitely agree with having a well thought out Headphone based audio system when you are confined to an apartment with very , very poor sound insulation from your neighbors units.

I was a Big Rig type but I am now a Computer Audio based owner. Happy too ! Very.

Fully Balanced from the source to the HD800 S series. Using mostly DSD x 256 and DXD files.

From my Matrix X Sabre Pro DAC to the Woo WA-22 Valve HP amp via a set of Cardas "Clear" XLRs and from the Woo to the HD800 S cans via 3-Pin Cardas "Clear" XLR upgraded HD800 S cables.

I get the Chicken Skin and Hairs on the back of my neck to raise up and I even CRY just from pure Joy occasionally at least . Using some of the so called "Holy Grail" vacuum tubes because I read about them because I don't know a thing about Tubed gear but it works for me. However , the system was definitely NOT $2,000.00 ! Unfortunately !

Happy Listening ,

I'm insured all around. I wouldn't buy anything until I'd finished rebuilding my house. I would have far too much to think about and do. Once I was settled in I would probably purchase much of what I currently have again. I actually kind of liked my stereo. I may consider a 300b style amp and single driver direct coupled speaker, but then again I have all the parts to build the speaker now so I'm already gravitating that way.

Well I was in Hurricane Mathew and had friends that had their homes flooded and lost everything under 2 feet on the walls. A close friend lost his Focal Utopias and his Naim amps. Insurance, unless you have a special rider on your gear and each item is itemized, pictures serial numbers you are out of luck.

Me, rebuild first and worry about audio later on. Ya got to have you're prioritizes and family 1st not audio gear.

Insurance is an unhealthy topic to discuss. Hopefully I never need it. Everything I have is new so I have all the receipts. Jewelry and guns all have serial numbers or appraisals.

I just switched to a new company and I was told if I did not have the earthquake insurance and there was an earthquake event. Say that even caused my neighbors house to burn. That fire propagates to my house, without earthquake insurance, they would say I had no coverage as the fire was part of an earthquake event. So yes, you have to be careful on what you purchase and what coverage you are actually getting.

I also have a 4 million umbrella, just to be safe. Never know if a fire in my kitchen burns the neighbors house and I get sued.
