Got this in my email box this evening. I disabled the active links for safety purposes. .

Hi, I know one of your passwords is: GusTheHorse

Your computer was infected with my private malware, your browser wasn't updated / patched, in such case it's enough to just visit some website where my iframe is placed to get automatically infected, if you want to find out more - Google: "Drive-by exploit".

My malware gave me full access to all your accounts (see password above), full control over your computer and it also was possible to spy on you over your webcam.

I collected all your private data and I RECORDED YOU through your webcam, I must say - the result is some good material!

After that I removed my malware to not leave any traces and this email was sent from some hacked server.

I can publish the videos of you and all your private data on the whole web, including the darknet, where the very sick people are, social networks, over email of all contacts.

But you can stop me and only I can help you out in this situation.

Transfer exactly 800$ in bitcoin (BTC).

It's a very good offer, compared to all that horrible shit that will happen if I publish everything!

You can easily buy bitcoin here: paxful.com , coingate.com , coinbase.com , or check for bitcoin ATM near you, or Google for other exchanger.
You can send the bitcoin directly to my wallet, or create your own wallet first here: login.blockchain.com/en/#/signup/ , then receive and send to mine.

My bitcoin wallet is: 191chSfN28Qniupjv7DyJcJ9EVLouW33rL

Copy and paste my wallet, it's (cAsE-sEnSEtiVE)

I give you 3 days time to pay.

As I got access to this email account, I will know if this email has already been read.
If you get this email multiple times, it's to make sure that you read it, my mailer script is configured like this and after payment you can ignore it.
After receiving the payment, I will remove everything and you can life your live in peace like before.

Next time update your browser before browsing the web!

I got one very similar to it. I just ignored it.

You read almost everyday about a place being hacked and passwords and emails stolen. Whoever did that then sells it or just dumps the data on a darknet/darkweb location. Then someone takes advantage and decides to send an email like the one you got hoping that you fall for it.

What I had done previously is to increase the difficulty of my passwords for sensitive sites like Banks and credit card sites. Other sites, I didn't really care.

However, After receiving that email, I started using LastPass to manage ALL my passwords. It works great. Also, LastPass will do a thorough review of your passwords and offers to generate new ones (which I did). LastPass has a free version which is the one I use. Highly recommended.

There are other similar programs.

Tell em you're an analog only audiophile, no bits and ask if they'll take a couple vinyl records instead as payment

Got a call today from “Microsoft” that I had a virus on my Windows computer. Had fun jerking the guy around for about an hour, “sir, we need you to click on Start”, me, “I don’t see Start”. “Sir, it’s in the bottom left hand corner.” Me: “which one is my left?” This went on.

Oh, just one problem. I don’t own a Windows computer. Haven’t since 1999.

I'm still regularly corresponding with the Nigerian Prince. We've become quite the pen-pals and I feel we are getting closer and closer to having the Prince signing his will leaving me his $26 Million fortune. It started with him asking me for money but at this point he says he will do anything just for me to leave him alone....

I did that a couple of weeks ago with the "your iCloud account has been hacked" people. They hate getting a person with IT experience that doesn't reveal it. Eventually it was can you call me back at this number when you have your IOS device in hand. Number is recording with menu that goes nowhere.

Couple months ago I got a call from "Sam" in Kansas, with a strong African accent. Heard great things about Soundfield from "friends", wanted to buy a bunch of speakers, to be freight shipped to his "business" in the Bahamas. He would pay up front for everything, including shipping, with his credit card. The only stipulation, was that I use his favorite freight shipping company in California "Galaxy Logistics" IIRC...who only accepts wire transfers as payment, no CC. Oh and no phone, they could only be contacted via email. But no problem, since I was going to be paid in full up front.
Never mind that the address in Bahamas was, umm "incomplete" and the logistics company in Cal didn't exist, except as an email address.
Sadly, there are many folks who fall for this stuff (per Google search of "Shipping scam"). That's why it happens.
Their brain tells them only what they want to hear, vs reality. Sounds familiar :)

I endorse this post.:)

Those Kansas accents can be deceiving.

LOL, I don't have a web cam so he has nothing to bribe me with.

I regularly get the one saying This is Microsoft, your license has expired. I say Oh yeah, which of my 10 computers is it? They hang up.

For those hoping to watch my videos on the web, sorry to disappoint but I'm not paying. Even if I had a webcam and this idiot had video, you guys would be bored silly watching me drink coffee in the mornings, tea in the evenings, and falling asleep in my chair at the keyboard occasionally. And that's the highlights. .:P

Dan count me in not to look forward to seeing your web cam videos [emoji851]
