Thought you all might enjoy seeing how my local DHL delivery man treated my expensive media server that was shipped to me from New Zealand. I received lots of platitudes from DHL customer service but no idea if this dude was fired.

So far, my unit is working very well but given
It’s a system of chips and motherboards, I have to say I am worried about its life span. Maybe I need an ambulance chasing lawyer 😁

Anyway, enjoy.

That wasn't as bad as expected, doubt they would fire someone for that, since during prior transport it probably got tossed around quite a bit more. Should he have come up your 2 steps and placed near door? Yes, but he did chuck it more horizontally than a looping shot put ;-).
Frankly if your server can't handle that type of impact, fully packaged, it's probably not well made for the long run.
We'll discuss it over a beer in Feb ;)

Pfft, that’s nothing. Think of what that package went through on its way to your destination. I mean I get it and have footage of my previous DAC literally thrown / dropped onto door step, it was [emoji15] moment.

The OCD in me TOTALLY relates to your concern.

But the more reality-side based side of my brain does sometimes overrule the OCD part. That light toss is nothing to be concerned about and I promise you it suffered more on the travels overseas than it did there. It will be fine.

I'm sure what you guys are saying about the rough trip is most likely the truth but in this day and age where pretty much everything is recorded why not put your best foot forward and do the right thing. At least give us an illusion someone cared, LOL

Exactly! The doorbell camera is not hiding. To me, it shows a lazy worker who is just putting in his time. It’s like a waitress dropping your plate in front of you while reaching across your wife’s face. No care or pride in the work.

Welcome to the latest generation of people we are now stuck with. They are taught to be professional victims, not real work ethic.

It seems every week I read about door dash people caught spitting in food because they didn't think their tip was high enough.

I don't think a label would provoke common sense.

I shipped an amp to Hawaii a few months ago, the outer box was tattered due to past Fedex trip. I knew when I lifted it the box gave like if it was lifted a few more times the insides may land on the ground. So the UPS guy weighs it, while he is doing that I asked if he was going to put the box in an outer box. He says no. We continue the transaction, then he learns I want $3k insurance, he says well we had better box it and we put a special label on it. LOL CYA

I should be glad he cared enough to avoid the insurance claim if one happened. Many high end companies now ship in aflight box and say it's cheaper to repair any damage than to attempt to get paid on an insurance claim. Meaning they don't even bother paying for insurance.

Exactly right.

People ignore stop signs, red lights, speed limits, text while driving, and more. Yet somehow a fragile sticker would suddenly induce an overwhelming sense of care and delicacy.

I agree they still should put them on, but to think the absence of them caused this is a bit silly.

If I may say, a foolish remark. If these is no FRAGILE label, this offers a defence to the driver and courier company and an insurance claim may well fail.

It wasn't too bad. If the server broke from that little impact, it was badly packaged inside.

Personally, I would never ship an expensive server without a pallet. Yes, palletized shipping is more expensive (plus takes MUCH more time on the seller's end), but that is how it should be handled. There is just no excuse.

I ship A LOT of stuff worldwide. To avoid shipping damage, I always ship stuff either palletized or double boxed (original box with original packaging put inside a bigger carton box with lots of styrofoam peanuts).

It has been my observation, 95% of the sellers are just lazy. Or do not care. Or both.

I hate opening any box that is filled with styrofoam peanuts. They are a freaking nightmare to clean up. I think we can do better than using styrofoam peanuts for packing in 2023.

It seems some wish to point blame at anyone other than the delivery — The shipper used bad packaging, the package didn’t have a fragile label, the delivery man had a bad day or was raised only by one parent, the sun was in his eye, it was probably treated worse along the way, if it breaks because of that it is the shippers fault…. All of these are excuses for not holding the driver accountable to do his job in the manner expected.

The one and only issue with this delivery is the delivery dude being too lazy to walk up three steps and place the box on the porch.

Serious question - is there an expectation / promise by shipper and delivery service that items shipped will be handled with kid gloves with white glove service from door to door? Is there a requirement that they hand carry and gently place it right by your front door?

I've shipped a LOT of stuff and never seen where they promise that nor set that expectation.

I agree with you he should have taken the extra two steps. I agree he shouldn't have tossed it. I disagree complaining to the shipper or trying to get him fired.

Fair question. Well, boxes are not newspapers. It would seem obvious to me that a heavy package is not something to toss around but maybe I need to read the fine print.

Sorry I communicated this event here. Peace out.

Styrofoam peanuts are a perfect filler to put inbetween the two boxes (when shipping stuff double boxed). They are light (a huge factor), offer excellent cushioning in case the package is dropped (which WILL happen), plus are cheap and easy to use. Everything else is secondary to me.
