I have a desktop hp plugged into my tv because I stupidly gave away my monitor to a friend . It's a PITA to use since I have other things plugged into my modem. Most of the time I am online on my iphone ,
But I'm a computer moron, I can't figure how to post links or pics or anything with this phone except straight text.
I have a crappy sprint tablet. Imagine the worst smart phone of all time, my tablet is just a bigger version of that. So I threw it on the floor over a year ago and that's where it still is today.still paying sprint for the 2 year contract on that. Nitemare!!!!!
My question is , are all tablets like a smart phone. Or can I do all the stuff I can't on one. Or should I just get a laptop, something I actually know how to use ?????

You can do more just because the screen is bigger.

But if you need a keyboard/mouse for things, then a laptop would probably be recommended.

iPad or MacBook Pro if you want Mac. As for Windows - there is an assortment.

Personally....I stick with Mac products because they just work, they are super user friendly and they are intuitive. I've had an iPad 2 since it first came out - use it all day - everyday (like right now) and it works great.

A good compromise might be the MacBook Air.

+1...I concur with Mike. I use nothing but Mac, got the iPad2, iPhone and MacBook Pro. Once you go Mac you won't go back;)

Dave

I agree

Mac all the way!

I find that I can do anything on an iPad that I can do on a laptop. The things I can't do very well on the ipad, it's mostly because of screen size.

Thanks guys this iPhone is my first item from apple ever. Always went windows but I like this type of thing better. So I'm going to go look now for an I pad or Mac book.
Let you know how it goes.

Steve...go to an Apple store and have the salespeople there give you a walk through / tutorial on the iPad. And you can also go to Best Buy and have them give you a tutorial on the Samsung Galaxy tablet. If you are comfortable that you can do what you need to do with a tablet vs. a laptop then pull the trigger. You will find the mobility of the tablet is so addictive and there are so many apps to do whatever you can think of that that paradigm has quickly overtaken that of the Wintel (PC/laptop world) paradigm. You need only look at annual PC shipments (latest forecast is down 10% this year over last) to know that that is a dying category. You do not want to own the old-school Tech names in your investment portfolio that's for sure (Intel just announced a crappy qtr and acknowledged that they are way behind in transitioning to Mobile from PC/laptops, Microsoft also just missed and took a $900MM writedown on their Surface tablet initiative, etc...). Sorry for the tangent there but I am a stock guy but the point is once you go mobile, you quickly realize how useful/productive/addictive it can be.

As for what to get, I am also a big fan of the iPad but clearly Samsung with the Google Android platform has been putting out some kick ass products as well.

Happy shopping.

Yes I see. I'm really not a mobile computer person. My phone does all that I need.
But in my house I'd like it to be connected to Comcast rather than sprint.
I'm really upset at how sprint has scammed me into 2 year tablet contract and 2 year @ 2 phone lines. Now I'm paying for 3 lines for 2 years and I just use my phone.
All because the phones I got from them stopped working after a year and then I found out I couldn't upgrade for another year .and the tablet I got through them is garbage. My plan is to run this contract out then go back to 1'line and save $120 a month.
I need to learn how to do the whole wifi thing. Since I also pay for Comcast just for Netflix through my play station .
I'm still not much ahead of when I paid $5000 for my gateway 166mh desktop in 1995. Lol!!!
It was top of the line ya know. Lmao!!!!!!!

Let me speak out for Microsoft

Go windows Surface Pro all the way

It has all the benefits of a laptop and all of a laptop..That's the beauty of windows 8.0. You get the tiles and icons like a notebook, but if you prefer desktop mode, you get that two..all at once. Its like getting two systems in one. I am sure you know how to use windows , right ? Well...its all there. Desktop, explorer, office, etc. But it also has the metro tiles (what apple has but doesn't give you the desktop)

it is an awesome unit plus, it has a built in wolfsen dac, HDMI, USB, and it has a click keyboard cover so you don't have to just type on the screen (you can do both)

Check it out...Love mine (sorry , can't stand apple...people say it makes things easier..it does ..by not running most things except apple stuff..so simple because its inflexible)

BTW ..MSFT just dropped the price so don't go by the page
Surface Pro from Microsoft, the New Windows Tablet

Surface RT with Microsoft Skydrive

With a tablet (large screen one), or from Apple (iPad), or from Microsoft (Samsung Galaxy); can you do everything that you can with a laptop?
...And I mean EVERYTHING.

Last: About total/overall cost? ...Including monthly payments from contracts, or from your already connected Mac or PC.

Steve, I don't know if Sprint will do it for you, but a few years back I tried a phone with Sprint, worst service I ever had. After awhile I took my phone in and told them to cancel my contract because I couldn't even use it in my own house without it dropping calls. And they did, I never paid for the rest of the contract, they let me out of it.

I gave up on Sprint in 2003. I had them since 1997 and, on Christmas Eve, 1998. I got my bill. Being recently dicorced and with no life yet, I wrote out the check and put it in the mail the next (christmas) day. The next month I got a bill that showed a late charge of $.01. Yes, one bleepin' penny!

Now, the penny wouldn't kill me but it was the principle of the matter. I sent out the check the day I received the bill. How the he!! could it be late. I called thema nd ask what happened and they said that tyheir bills are processed by an outside agency and they are not responsible for when they record the payments. I sent them a separate check for one penny with my next bill.

I let that one slide.

The final straw came about five years later when my now six year-old phone died. Remember, I had no contract at this time. I went on line and looked at their free phones. When I found one I liked, I called their customer service ad specifically asked if I couldget that one for free to replace my dead oneif I went with a two year contract. They said yes.

So, I got the phone in the mail and activated it, I was happy as a seagull with a french fry, at least until I got te bill. Thost bastiches charged me $200 for the bleepin' phone!

I called customer service and now they said it was only free if I got a new phone number.

So, I went to Cingular, transferred y number, got a V-551 and all was well.

Since all this transpired within 30 days, I returned the phone and I owed them NOTHING, aside from the phone usage.

About two months later I got a call from some poor customer service girl asking if there was anything they could do to get my and my new wife's business back. I tried to not laugh, told her the story, and adked her if she would come back. She said thanks for my time. Oh, my I forgot to mention: My wife had a Sprint phone on my account and the two year time limit for a free phone was up. She got a V-551 for free, too.

So, Sprint and I aren't exactly on speaking terms.

Rob...if I remember correctly, you work at Micrisoft so I hope my comments did not offend in any way. Please tell Steve to get on the Mobile bandwagon :-) When Bill was running the show, he almost missed the whole internet thing before course correcting and coming on strong with Internet Explorer. The problem for you guys right now (at least from an investor's stand point) is that 60-70% of your profits/cash flow (Windows and OS) are tethered to a declining end-market. So the course correction needs to come soon because iOS and Android have gobbled up the market thus far in Mobile.

Just my 2c :D

Sweet thanks guys. I'm looking but everything I see I like is pretty pricey.
I'm worried about memory and I think I like the ones with removable storage.
I'm definitely going for the tablet. I like the ones with the real keyboard, my sausage thumbs don't like these little digital keyboards. Ill let you know how it works out .

Oh btw I called sprint today and asked to change my plan. The lady said if you don't use the other line just put it on seasonal hold??????? I said what's that!!!
She said it knocks the price down to $8 a month for the other line. The. After 6 months I can call back and cancel it and since I cant officially cancel until April it will only cost about $75. So I can't do that to my tablet line. But in changing my plan and the seasonal hold , my bill went from $197 a month to $108.!!!!!
I said why would nobody tell me this when I called in the past, and she said that she is customer service, sales is probably who I called last time and they are in the selling game. I got her name and extension . I will only call her from now on.
Scammin mofos!!!!!!!!
