Kronos SCPS-1 - Kronos does it again!

If it was cheaper it'd make it sound like class d :)

Yes I agree, expectation bias is a powerful force. But you have it backwards, usually a lower price lowers the perceived sound quality, not take it up a few notches :)

Did I miss something? Why would it/should it come cheap? It's Kronos after all... [emoji4]

Well $12,500 for a power supply is peanuts after reading the guys at TechDas came up with some upgrades to the Air Force One and are charging $40,000 for them in the Air Force One Premium, nevermind Michael Fremer saying the €280,000 Apolyt turntable´s price is "very reasonable for what it is" :disbelief:

Seing as the SCPS-1 is 33% of the price of the Kronos Pro and it provides a 35% increase in sound quality at least you get what you pay for.

Is that a money back guarantee if it doesn't? Now I wonder how the 35% would be measured :D

I think people are mistaking one person's attempt to describe the differences he heard as the manufacturer's claim.

Ha ha. Kronos distrubitors claim.

What do Kronos say?. 32.5% :yahoo1:

Btw, when r you getting your SCPS? Must be frustrating having such a huge increase in performance just waiting to be bought.

Cheers

Shane - not sure what you're beef is against the Kronos, as I doubt you've even had one in your system. The 35% number came from Rene at Nagra who told me his opinion after hearing the SCPS-1. Now, if you know Rene, you will know he is not one for hyperbole as he's a musician and a recording engineer as well. After A/B for himself with familiar recordings, that's what he told me.

Louis has not given any percentage of improvement to me, but he has talked about all the sonic improvements he's heard.

Kronos is pushing the envelope of what is possible in analog playback and the old gang sit around and make jokes. Hey, I saw this after the first CES where Kronos was debuted. I was the first to say how special this table sounded. It sounded so close to R2R, that I couldn't get it out of my head. Everyone laughed. Everyone said this counter rotating table was a gimmick. Who's laughing now?

After 4 years, have you seen and read the praise Kronos gets from reviewers and more importantly, it's owners? Have you taken note how many manufacturers have bought Kronos? 5 Kronos tables at Munich this year. When Kronos is compared to the best, even tables costing 2-3 times as much and wins and then goes out and continues to push the envelope, come on man, you have to admit it's special.

The SCPS-1 will not be available until August or September.

Agree with Mike on this. René is a committed engineer and audiophile. He knows his stuff. Now suggesting something as being a 35% improvement is just that, a suggestion of the degree the update has changed things. Picking apart at the number sure seems petty to me. Point is, kronos has a new accessory to it's top tt. Not everyone looking at top tier tables will want a kronos nor will some want to spend the extra money on this power supply. At the very least, like all pricy highend gear, have a listen before criticizing.

I don't disagree. But have to add... Isn't this obvious? I mean come on guys, what are we...all in the 8th Grade? Let's grow up please...

Mike, I have no beef with Kronos. Just having a bit of fun with the absolute % increase in performance stated, which we all know is highly subjective.

I want to hear the Kronos as it looks to be one of the best. Gotta be able to afford it first, which is why I declined hearing the Air Force 2 in my system :)

btw, can you put the SCPS-1 on the Sparta and get similar increases in pwrformance?

The SCPS-1 is only use with Pro for now. I heard Louis is working on new PS for Sparta as well.
